The Times has this deal in its 'Dead certs' paragraph now. I wait with interest to see it happen, and then for the flood of 'I really did think it would happen' posts from the STG doubters! Oh the joys of HNA.

Reports say that Hammond was sat in the directors box during their recent home game against Brum! There could well be some truth in this rumour....

The comments section of that story make me glad Southampton =/= Reading

Aye, and people think things are going badly wrong here....It's an all inclusive holiday in the Maldives compared to Soton at the moment.

I'll settle for 'going badly wrong' if it means being undefeated, no goals conceded, etc.

I confess to having a reliable source at St Marys and the word is that he doesn't want to leave them for anybody!

Having said that the Saints desperately need the money.

This is more than mere speculation.
He's having his medical tomorrow.

Ian Royal I'd hate to see Harper go, I think he's the heartbeat of the team. It would be just about bearable of Matejovsky was fit, but as he's not I'd be worried for us.

I think if Harper goes many of his detractors might realise just how much he brought to the team unnoticed.

I so agree with this post.

The Royals, in search of a left back after the sale of Nicky Shorey to Aston Villa, are set to stump up around £2.5m to try and tempt cashstrapped Saints into selling.
Reading director of football Nicky Hammond was sat in the front row of the Saints side of the directors' box for the 2-1 loss to Birmingham.

He's a good footballer no doubt. But midfielder converted to left back just to help his beloved Saints, who have asset stripped their squad. Do me a favour!

Reminds me a bit of the Scott Murray transfer, he was too fond of Bristol City to settle in Berkshire. Too far away you see.

Surman loves his home club way too much to settle up here in the Thames Valley.

He wouldn't have to move. Could easily still live there and commute. Only takes an hour

Cookie wrote on the other thread that Surman was never going to leave Southamption because he loved it there so much. Make of that what you will.

Exactly, throw in better wages than he's on and the chance of promotion to the big league and you have yourself a young man wanting to leave his home town club.

Doesn't mean he'll want to leave.

Fact is he may well have no choice. Soton need the money and are in a position where they have to cash in on players. They'd rather clear the deadwood, but nobody wants those so have to accept bids for the "crown jewels"

A shame, but great news for us if we get him.

Still not sure at that price. Would be somewhat ambitious!

Look at Lee Cook moving from QPR to Fulham last year.

He loved the club, but they needed the money, he didn't really want to move and even gave QPR his signing on fee.

Good example. How many games did he end up playing for Fulham and where is he now?

Listening to a Surman every week is bad enough, let alone watching one.
