Come from nowhere a bit hasn't he, not really on the radar last season for any of the "youngsters" we have, now suddenly he's pushed his way ahead of all of them in terms of getting a league outing for Reading

Was he on loan anywhere last season?

Overall with Pearce looking very good and high hopes for Henry and Karacan this could at last be the season of the Academy.

Hes been at the academy since he was 16, before that he was at Arsenal. Previous 2 years spent as a scholar at Reading and signed professional forms in July.

I have never seen him play before, but when he took charge of the ball, beat a defender, I was thinking, good going, now for the cross.....D'oh! That was a very bad attempt at a cross. Never mind, the lad must have been nervous. How did the crowd react to that?

I laughed - but very sympathetically, as I think most around me did. His 2nd involvement was much better when he was fouled and won a free kick. It was just good to see one of our youngsters getting a go even if only for a few minutes.

I was staying in the Hotel for the weekend and saw Kelly after the game leave for the car park with the other Academy lads who were all wearing tracksuits. All the autograph hunters sprinted up to the boys in the tracksuits and Kelly wearing a suit was left to walk to his car by himself lol. He saw the funny side though.

I thought he had a good debut. I think Coppell wanted to give him some minutes and played him on the right hand side so he could tuck in infront of Roseiner, Roseiner seemed to be talking him through the game helping him with his positioning maybe more than Hunt would have

Kelly is poor defensively but good getting forward, so I can see why he was put on the wing.

Normally a better crosser than that though.

I'd still prefer him as a left back- better there than on either of the right sided positions.

You don't want to leave gapping channels for the opposition to play the ball into and turn your centre backs though.

Much better to keep it narrow and then the whole line step across as and when the ball is played out wide to the touchline.

i was laughing at the huge gap between rosi and their winger all game

but i agree, it better to tuck in,to block the channel then move out once hes out there to stop the cross-

it does look funny though

'greed. The cardinal sin for a full back is to let a winger get in behind you. It's dangerous and highly likely to lead to a chance on goal. Much better to keep narrow and force wingers out wide. Few wingers in the Championship have the skill to beat a full back if shepherded down the line effectively.

Full backs arn't supposed to stay with their man on the touch line. It leaves a gaping hole in the defence. You can't get the ball to the touchline very quickly and you can't do much damage from there. You can from going inside the full back. Any time the ball went out wide our full backs / wingers were on to it fairly quickly.
