Royal Lady So, in the CCC we have 5 strikers - but for a period in the Prem when we fighting relegation, we only had 3. Something doesn't add up.

exactly which leads me to believe there wont be 5 strikers at the club for too long. can see doyle moving on

Am I the only one hoping its LOLita?

Lita will score more than doyle and Long this season in this league, imo of course.

Last year of the contract so the fee wouldn't be great, better hanging on to him, again don't forget he's only 22/23.

I hope he does but I fear that he's easily ... erm ... distracted.

Only one Trevor Morley
Alan Partridge He's a young lad that needs to play, 10 games somewhere, I dunno like Leeds or even someone in the CCC would be good for him. Long isn't going to get those opportunites here just yet. That may well change in the future, Doyle could go, Lita in his last year, loss of form, injury, he needs to play.

Leeds Leicester or Southend would be ood shouts

But it wont happen (even if it should) becuase Long is the sort of player that Coppell loves to have coming off the bench.

and i think this is irrelevant anyway as Doyle is probably on his way....

To be fair there was no chance of Coppell allowing Long to go on loan last season when we were fighting relegation as he may just have made a difference but I agree that now it would make sense to loan him to a Div 1 club for 3 months (as long as we have a right to recall in case of injuries). It would do him good.

What concerned me most last season was that he player poorly for the reserves whereas in 2006/7 he was electric in the reserve games I saw and top scorer in the reserve league. I think he just needs to play and could be a fantastic player in the long run.

Yes but I don't think he'll get the chances here until he's shown he can do it consistently.

not a lot of headers in this video - looks more like Doyle than a target man

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WZwn_W4_VE

hopefully we'll keep Doyle and send Mooney out on loan for a month to get some experience of english footy - however I fear this could be then end of our no 9

if Doyle stays - great news - if he goes - nightmare.....

I was about to say! Most seem to come with ball at feet, coming inside from the wings

From that video he looks very good in front of goal and thats what Reading needs tbh.

I think we've got a few strikers who can do that. it's getting the ball to them in front of goal that is the bigger problem.

in yesterdays EP:

"Coppell also rubbished reports that he has made a £200,000 bid for Cork City striker Dave Mooney.

As we revealed last month, Royals’ boss watched Mooney in action and I understand the club is continuing to monitor him. However, they have not as yet made any move for the target man."

yet more lies to add to the Kitson and Shorey are ill thats why they are not in the squad!!!!!

Possibly a really good signing for us. Let's hope he's near ready as I think we will be waiting a long time to see any sort of conistency from Lita or Long and I think Hunt and Mooney could prove better options eventually. Would be nice to see LIta make way for one of them on Saturday from my personal opinion on his 1st 2 games this year which I thought were all about trying to win free kicks than score goals. As for Doyle, I'm not sure Villa would pay £8m for him based on his scoring record?

Good business. Potentially very good player, with a bit of height, who can take penalties, with a low price tag which reduces the problems him failing to make an impact could have.

The only concern would be that in those clips he didn't get many headers, although that may be more a case of the way Cork played than a weakness of his.

I really hope Doyle isn't doing. I'm not keen on Lita's off the field antics, but thats been quiet for a while and I think he could be a very big player for us this season. It doesn't look great for Noel Hunt. Hopefully Long will head off on loan, but I'd be burying my head in the sand if I didn't admit it looks like Doyle is off to Aston "New Reading" Villa.

Yours
Happy of Cambridge.

PS now for a left sided player of some sort.

It's going to be a difficult choice for forwards by the sound of it. Would we ever play with 3 up front?

I'd hope not unless it was with 2 forwards come wingers and 3 across the centre of midfield.

I don't much like a conventional 4-3-3

yes

and you could ask an interesting question one day too but sadly neither are likely to happen for the forseeable future
