If Doyle is playing well and scoring goals he'll get his move. He isn't.

Fair play to Reading for puuting such an exorbitant price on his head. He's not worth anywhere near that much. What puzzles me though, is why they only valued Kits at £5.5mil when he was twice the player Doyle was last year?

Kevin Doyle "I know the club have had a few inquiries, but no one can match Reading's asking price at the moment,"

"I don't know what the club are looking for, but it seems like the clubs are not willing to pay Reading's asking price."

"They have put a price on my head and that's their prerogative so I might be staying. "

If the figures are to be believed, the reason that the price is now £10M rather than £8M is down to Coppell's statement after Forest regarding other clubs having to pay inflated prices now that our season has started.

If he was that bothered about a move, he should have got his agent to pull his finger out and get it sorted earlier in the summer.

Isn't that because Kitson made it clear he wanted to move asap, and Coppell said he would slap a premium on player prices once the season got under way.

Cos he was lining up Mooney as a replacement for Kitson and making a £5m profit is something that doesn't come along everyday.

That 10 million quid figure is made up by the paper isn't it? 10 million Euros maybe, but I reckon 7-8 million will get him.

For what it's worth, I know that Coppell did not want to sell Kitson and wanted Stoke to consider Doyle or Lita instead. Kitson was Pulis' No. 1 target so they kept offering more! In fairness, Kitson was probably worth less than that and at that point Coppell would have let Doyle go for the same fee. Stoke weren't interested.

I also remain convinced that Doyle will be sold this summer and personally I dont think he has been good enough this season so far or last season to cry over when he does leave... Although if he does stay you have to think his form will improve, not like Shorey.

Interesting post YR.

I agree that if Doyle stays his form will improve, that's why I think it would be good to keep him. If we do get a huge offer for him I would be sad to see him leave but I think we could cope without him.

Whatever you think about Doyle's form over the last year and a half you certainly can't fault his effort...

Once we find our feet a bit more we'll start creating more and Doyle will hit form.

So far we've played two teams who didn't really have a strike force and kind of had to try and stifle us to have a chance of getting much out of the game. I think games will open up a bit more soon.

It would be nice if Doyle and Lita got on the score-sheet this Saturday.

Here's hoping!

Kitson was wanted out by the club as he was becoming disruptive, so they just hung on to get the best price possible, Doyle is a player they saw as the future for the club, hence the high price on his head and him still been here.

It would be interesting to know if all that is correct.

What are you basing that on?

Steve Coppell did not want to sell Kitson.

What I heard, about third hand and pieced together from posts on here, was that Kitson got distruptive because he felt he was surrounded by, well, to put it politely, pricks who didn't care.

It worries me that we let him go ...

Given his general contempt for footballers, outspoken nature and some of the rumours that went around at the time that sounds the most likely to me. But then I'm biased because he was one of my most favourite players for us.

We lost a lot when Kitson left. He'd have been a good shout for League top scorer if he'd stayed. Now ignoring Mooney we're a bit 2D upfront. If Doyle goes too then Hunt, Long and Mooney have a lot of work to do and Lita needs to produce the goods consistently for once.

Doyle himself,

I saw his interview after the Ireland game and he said that he needs to play Premiership football to be in contention for the ireland squad - personally i dont agree, what other strikers do Ireland have that ARE in the premiership (bar Robbie Keane)
