LB sorted.... Convey or Hunt for LM

by Kieron1981 » 26 Aug 2008 12:47

ok i looked this today http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/footb ... _armstrong

"The player is undergoing a medical at Madejski Stadium and is likely to sign a three-year deal." so out defencive worries are over.

so what do do do with the LM position. Convey came into that position as hunt was switched for LM

Hunt earned the right to play there while Convey was injured and as far as i can see hunt is still better than convey can be.

i would say Convey on the bench and hunt back in at LM

Hunty for left wing. No contest as we have nothing else.

There is no way Coppell will drop S Hunt, Convey has done nothing in the first few games to warrant selection so it's a no brainer to Shunt S Hunt forward and bring in Stretch at left back.

Last year everyone wanted Convey back!

I'd still like to see him be given a run in the team, only two games back in from pretty much 1 and a half years out.

I think (myself included) people's memories of Convey is ripping apart Championship defences and putting in consistant decent delivery and the hope being he could return to that, he hasn't. Since he's been injured he has certainly lost a yard of pace, and he doesn't have the strength to beat anyone. His crossing consistently will be better than Hunt's but what use is it if you can't get in the positions to put said crosses in?

Even though he is actually left footed (apparently)

'greed though about Kebe. He seems to be a breath of fresh air and has added pace and skill to our attack. We just lack the strikers to fire the ammunition!

A year ago I would have gone for Convey no question.

But he is too lightweight to play in our midfield IMO, we need Hunt in there ASAP.

Plus Convey's fitness and work rate is nowhere near the standard of Hunty's

Aren't you forgetting something? Armstrong will have to do the things the Reading way. So clearly he needs to spend 6 months in the reserves, getting up to speed with English football, and generally learning how things are done here.

Then he'll be given a couple of sub outings, and then will fade into obscurity, a la Fae, Halford and to a lesser extent Cisse and Bikey, before finally being loaned out to Charlton and then sold. THAT's the Reading way!!

Of course, he MAY just worm his way into Sir Steve's favourites cliche, a la Kebe, Doyle, Harper and Hahnemann, and once picked for the 1st XI will NEVER get dropped again, ignoring form, fitness etc.

Cynical?? ME?!??!

If you could describe 5 crosses (decent crosses) that Kebe has 'supplied the ammunition' too I would be interested to hear it. I can think of one, the cross against Plymouth which S Hunt got on the end of. Kebe is pacey, unpredictable, direct and I would agree has provided some exciting moments thus far but his end ball is dire/non existant.

Convey set up Sonk's goal on Saturday and Harps and Hunts corner were rubbish on Sat. I know Hunt set up Sonko both times the week before but he needs to be more consistant with his crossing. Convey has a good left foot on him that would be good for freekicks.
