In reality, any academy player that makes it into the first team on a regular basis will be the most expensive signing this club has ever made.

Unless 3 manage it. don't forget we've had money for Ashdown, Henderson, Tyson and Cox to offset some of the massive costs... what is it? £1m/year + extras here and there?

Thats about £1m paid off with those 4 if not more. Karacan, Pearce, Henry, Kelly, Siggurdson, & Church, could all conceivably come through in the next 3 years. Although thats very unlikely. Surely that would equate to the Academy paying for itself.

How long has the academy been in place for? I didn't think we got any money for Ashdown, he left at the end of his contract. We got nominal fees for Tyson and Henderson in the last few months of their contracts and £200k for Cox. I wouldn't say that would pay for half a years worth of academy players, let alone all the staff, coaches and facilities. The fact that up until now we have not had a single player come through, not entirely the fault of the academy to be fair, means they are long overdue to produce at least one player who can stick it in the first team squad. The good thing is that it looks like we may have three coming through at once, though they aren't exactly fresh out of the academy doors. It's still been a very expensive and unsuccessful journey so far, we have had to buy promising youth players to supplement our numbers

We agreed an undisclosed fee with Portsmouth a couple of days before it was due to go to a tribunal.

Watford paid Gillingham £450,000 for Darius Henderson, we got a percentage of that.
Nottingham Forest paid Wycombe £675,000 for Nathan Tyson, we got a percentage of that.

OK, so with the amounts at say 10 or 20%, it's still feck all. All in with money for Ashdown on tribunal, we haven't even recouped £1 million. That is quite frankly shocking considering the amount of players that have come through the system. I know we were at a disadvantage with the surrounding Premiership clubs but our policy of not utilising youth has been a huge thorn in our side

I'm really not convinced with this. First and foremost I think he looks a bit lightweight and this will get punished by Wolves' talented wing system.

Also I think Rosenior is a class player, but it still took him a while to adapt to the way Kebe plays (ie end up having to do all the defending). I don't think he will be able to turn all his attention towards defence and attack, which is what we'll miss.

The only way round the above would be to play Henry, as Im sure the two have played together plenty of times before. However I can't see Coppell changing things so drastically for such a big game.

Just because Henry and Kelly have played on the same pitch won't mean putting htem both in will help.

Whenever I've seen Kelly for the reserves or the Academy side he's played left back whereas Henry has been on the rightwing or central midfield so I'm not sure they will have much of an understanding.

I am a firm believer in horses for courses and playing people in the correct position.

There are very few people, especially at Reading that can play a multitude of positions (only Cisse, Gunnar and Bikey spring to mind) but even then they are only mediocre when played 'out of position'.

Kelly is a natural full back and although I would much rather see Rosie or Murty at right back he is the correct option and has to be told just to concentrate on the defending aspect of the game and let the rest of the team worry about attacking. We have enough in our team and Wolves are vunerable enough all over the park for us not to need one of our two full backs pressing on.

I am nervous for the lad but hope he does really well at his job if he plays Tuesday night, namely, defending.
