Back to the original question
Sir Dodger Royal I hope the Madman enjoys the lootttttttttttttt

I really don't get the idea that his Madj is like Scrooge, hoarding all the cash for himself. He's not, he's a backer not a bankroller of the club.

These are the financial facts I've cleaned from public statements from the club:

Howe has said that his Madj hasn't put money into the club for a number of years, and although he has debts due, any money we get goes into the club coffers, not his.

Any money he gets personally is for repayment of old loans.

The money we got the first year in the prem, paid the debt to get there from the championship. We haven't seen last season accounts yet to comment.

Whilst I can understand the concern of fans who don't like this round of asset stripping, I think it was always an inevitable consequence of relegation. Like it or not, we will have to rebuild a new side of young, hungry and cheap players, to get us back there. This is the Reading way.

Platypuss A lot of those winners were the 3rd seed teams (like we would have been!) - so wouldn't have been paired against teams of that quality. We would have had to beat who they beat.

BTW, Blackburn took our place - we finished above them, remember!

Did they accept the intertoto invitation after we turned it down? I can't remember. I accept your first point though.

Platypuss
Thaumagurist* Anyway, winning the Intertoto is not really much of an achievement, is it? Purely just qualification into the UEFA Cup. When you enter a competition, surely you enter it with the intention of either competing or winning it? Could we even compete at that level and 2 games, well, would it be worth it?

We entered the Prem with the intention of competing, didn't we?

Yeah, but the Premiership is a season long competition, whereas the intertoto is only a couple of weeks long, isn't it? And during the wrong time.

Platypuss
Thaumagurist* What would be the effect on the squad when they might have been thrashed and dumped out of the competition even before the Premiership season had started? Who knows?

True - it could well have had a negative effect on our season. We might even have ended up relegated. :|

Yes, we did get relegated anyway, but only by three goals. Might have been worse than that if we had the scenario I described.

voice of reason People should stop basing their negative thoughts on RFC soley on their own personal assumptions and hunches.

In the absence of any hard facts emminating from the Mad Stad I'd say they've little else to base their thoughts on.

SDR

I've waited but I can't resist I am afraid.

It is a lot better than £1.4M in ......£23M spent; club in administration; lose 15 - 30 points and face certain relegation.

But then you know that don't you?

HSBC have called in £7millions worth of RFC's loan with them, so that's a chunk of the money gone right there.

It sure won't where has the money gone?

Man City spend £40 mill Euro Reading fail to spend 4 Euro.

Ambition. What ambition. Reading deserve Division One football and if they are not careful it is coming down the track.

Newsflash...... SDR like the Madman will not spend another penny at the Madhouse this season. He has no intention of the Madman even scamming out the price of a hot dog from the main man.

You know it makes sense.

So why the **** is it 'Ups and Downs' that tells the supporters this, rather than the club?

It's all about giving the supporters proper information rather than hype. It is the likes of JM and NH who sowed the seeds of dissatisfaction that they are now reaping. It is they, not the supporters, who when we were in the PL talked about RFC being the next Arsenal, one of the top clubs in the country, announced plans for massive stadium expansion etc.

Then we get relegated and guess what? Having fired up supporters expectations about life at the very top, Howe turns around and says that maybe relegation won't turn out to be such a bad thing, that we need to check our speed and maybe our ambition had got ahead of us!!

Mind you, still didn't stop them talking about an immediate return to the PL whilst they were pushing season ticket sales!

I wasn't aware that it was common business practice (certainly within football) to annouce every repayment that may have taken place.

Two little things.

1) Doesn't that depend on what type of business you are?

2) Ups and Downs comment strikes me as it being something more extraordinary than a mere repayment. Maybe it explains where a reasonable chunk of the money has gone.

If it makes our infrastructure more secure, then that's fine, but who else would like the club to make this a little bit clearer?

Kes In the words of JM - Reading lost £22million by getting relegated. How can you lose what you didn't have in the first place?
I lost £5m last Saturdays by the lottery drawing the wrong numbers.

if you were a business, and your yearly budget included, 5 million each year coming in from the lottery
and then you picked the wrong numbers and didnt win one year, you would then have to readjust your budget accordingly, minus the 5M

then it would be a semi valid point you are making

LOl at comparing us to the richest club in the world!

and im not sure this is a good deal for one of the big four,
if man city can supplant arsenal or liverpool up there, one of those clubs could be in real financial straits, with little hope of redemption.
players would have to be sold, and budgets slashed.and next seasons goals downgraded, im not sure they would survive
this will only get worse as more and more top clubs get bought out in this manner
all will demand a return, and only 4 can produce it.
if man city dont produce it with the new outlay, then that club is in for some more turmoil in the next few years.

these billionaire foreign owners aint all that IMO

Man City are screwed. Top 4 by the end of the season my arse. Don't make it the year after and I wouldn't expect the investors to be keen on hanging around.
