Who is our best player?

by winchester_royal » 05 Sep 2008 17:31

I was asked earlier today by a wolves fan who our best player is and I couldn't give a definite answer.

So I thought I would put it to the HNA? faithful to decide who RFC's best player is.

Personally I think Marek just shades it.

I'm not sure how you can say that from his performances in a Reading shirt, to be honest.

The question isn't 'based on previous performances in a Reading shirt, who is our best player?'

I have gone for Doyle.

And to Winchester Royal we can't really go on performances for other clubs now can we?

So what do we base it on? Whether we like his hair cut? :|

How about performances for National teams?

And from what i've seen of Marek at Reading I still think he is technically better than the rest.

FTR, I went for Doyle, but started to get quite stumped.

I think Hahnemann is a fantastic goalkeeper at this level, SHunt has something about him that compensates for his (relative) lack of skill and I think Marek could be a fantastic player for us, but has only shown glimpses of that.

Doyle's got something about him that will see him play at higher levels yet.

Whilst it is true that Marek has been good for the Czech Republic (in the two or so games I have seen him), Doyle has also been good for Ireland on numerous occasions. Ok the games weren't on the biggest stage but they count nevertheless...

That is why I think it is a really tough question, hence the poll.

What it has also shown to me is how many quality players we have.

LOLZ

I had the opposite problem. I literally sat there and thought "Do I think any of these players are any good? I mean, they're solid enough but I'm struggling to think of any recent moments that have enthused me. NHunt could be good, Doyle was good, Marek clearly needs to get faster and fitter ... " :|

'Greed.

But for who. Pearce is going to be a top class player, Ingimarsson is a RFC legend, and in midfield soon we will have harper and marek in there.

Yeah, I think Bikey may have been an option, but then again, if he don't do it for us, I don't really care. And for one reason or another, he's not really done it for us, consistently. Same as Duberry, same as Marek.

Ingimarsson is a RFC legend

Is that any reason why he shouldn't be dropped if Pearce is playing better than he is?

Bikey and Pearce would be my centre halves. I would like to see him in central midfield but agree it will be difficult to play him there now.

Well, in a way, you could argue yes. Ingi is more experienced and therefore less likely to "stop playing" if things don't go his way. Additionally, Pearce does seem to have a good knowledge of the game, but if he can learn from a player like Ingimarsson, he'l get even better. If the partnership was Bikey-Pearce, I think it would be more a case of Alex teaching Bikey tbh.

I'd also go for Bikey and Pearce. I'm also happy to have Harper and Karacan in there. I'm not sure if Harper and Matejovsky worked last year...

Despite what I've just said I can see your point. Aren't they a bit slow though?
