reasonable praise for our support

I went to the game in our first season in the Premiership. It was indeed a very good turnout for a Wednesday (?) night in early December. I missed the one they refer to below from last season but it seems the turnout, if not so much the noise, was equally good.


“Reading

One of my favourite away followings of the season. They definitely haven’t suffered the infamous second season syndrome and brought just as good a turnout as they did last season. They were generally muted for most of the match as their team were so awful, but the odd song was sung. 8/10.”

This was the joint third best score, after Man U and Spurs and alongside Derby.

The worst ratings were Sunderland (probably best to ignore this as biased) plus real slaggings for Bolton, Blackburn, Wigan and Fulham. Chelsea got the worst score of the bigger teams.

I was thinking yesterday about great Reading away days and the Newcastle Wednesday night one will retain it's legendary status for years to come. Anyone care to share other great away days they'll forever remember for any particular reason.

Apart from Leicester away, Derby away NYE in our promotion season. Only about 200 there but a rousing 'Blue Army' sustained for about 20 minutes by about 25 of us.

A Sherpa Van Trophy (or whatever it was called at the time) cup tie in about 1983, away to Saaffend on freezing cold Wednesday night. Stood on an open terrace with about 100 other Royals in a crowd of a about 1500.

Lost 5-0.

Preston away when the star coaches arrived at half time, I wont remember that for a good reason.

Man Utd away in the cup when we drew 2-2 that was a good away game. We was loud and made United fans frustrated.

3-1 win after going behind, brilliant away support from the packed Cuckoo Lane End.

Sorry for drifting from the point.

Anyway,Fulham away was my favorite away day. Trains packed with Reading fans to london. Walking past a pub that was bursting with the traveling contingent,even at 1.30. Super loud fans singing practically non stop with the 5 men next to be completely oxf*rd and could barley stand up.Laughing my head off at half time when someone got kicked out because he had called the policeman short.Kicking leaves all the way back to the tube station.Shame about the result.
