Dissapointed- The goal that Never was.

by FiNeRaIn » 20 Sep 2008 20:12

Disappointed with coppell today, we might not have gone against the rules of the game, but we went against the spirit.
There is no way we should have accepted that as a goal, once it was given and we had a chance to discuss the incident at half time we should of walked the ball into our own net. It was a real scrubby move to play on as if nothing had happened.
I know we are a terrible team away from home but we were scraping the bottom of the barrel. Its not as if it was a " you win some you lose some" goal, it was NEVER a goal in a million years and we were awarded a goal out of nowhere. There wasn't even a decision to be made, the manager, players and club should be ashamed of themselves tonight.

If you'd seen the game, I think you would have been forgiven for thinking that we allowed them their two goals as a way of making up for the non-goal!

I haven't seen it yet, but that's a bit harsh shirley. For instance, our players who were not close to the incident wouldn't have been able to make a judgement on whether it was a goal, so who makes the decision and goes and tells Bikey to roll the ball into his own net?

Rather you than me.

Then we would be in the wrong to deliberately score an own goal...

So when we score an offside goal we should let the other team score as its only fair.

Its swings & roundabouts, i doubt that coppell had seen a re run of the goal.

No, offside goals are debatable. We were given a goal for a ball that went nowhere near the goal

I would be embarrassed to accept that as a player.

The ball went in the net, not out for a corner that was then given as a goal.

No fishing here, I genuinely think that goes against the spirit of the game, imagine had it been done to us, you wouldn't be so bias then.

Referee's aren't allowed to go back on their decision.
But this judgement clearly shows the need for video replays.
It cries out for it.

Funny thing is its not the 1st time its happened, in the 70,s our centre back Tommy Youldon drove a shot into the side netting against Rochdale, everyone knew it wasn`t a goal except the ref and lino..we took the goal then and won 2-0.
Coppell is right, footballs governing body are still living in the dark ages..all it takes is 20 seconds max to decide on goal line issues, I mean, how often does it happen?

A few years ago a team (possibly Torquay, but am not absolutely sure), let their opponents score when they were awarded a goal which had some doubt about it. The wronged team took the kick off and ran through unchallenged to score.
