Croatia fined for racist abuse.

by T.R.O.L.I. » 25 Sep 2008 14:52

Fifa has fined the Croatian Football Federation £15,000 for racist behaviour by their fans during the World Cup qualifier with England on 10 September.

Monkey chants were heard from a section of the Maksimir Stadium when England striker Emile Heskey was booked for fouling Niko Kovac.

The Football Association made an official complaint to world football's governing body after England's 4-1 win

Full story

Surely if FIFA want to eradicate this from the game, paltry fines of £15K just aren't a strong enough deterrent?!?!?

FIFA are a joke!

Either they should start threatening teams with games being played behind closed doors, or just admit that they can't be @rsed to tackle racist abuse properly.

Apparently, even the Croatian players were rightly p!ssed off and embarrassed with the monkey chants.

As opposed to the Croatian players encouraging the fans.

FIFA = shit

how is a 15k fine going to make any effect on teams/countries preventing racism in football?

Racism is not FIFA's problem.

But FIFA shouldn't fine them, they should demand games behind closed doors.
You can then guarantee a more forceful approach from the Police.
Then you'd see some skulls cracked by nightsticks.

That would more or less nip it in the bud, on the whole, during the game.

FIFA is the international governing body of association football.
so by this definition they are basically in charge of worldwide football - racism is a huge problem in world football

i am struggling to understand how you have the opinion that racism is not the problem of the organisation in charge of football

If a game is played behind closed doors, why would they need police and whose skulls would they be cracking??

Racism is not Football's problem, open your narrow mind a bit.
Do people become 'racist' as soon as they enter a football ground.
No.
So racism is not FIFA's fault, as I said...

Outrageous. Come on FIFA, 15,000 even you know that's not going to solve anything!

ReadingBedding - I know you've mentioned it twice now - but "behind closed doors" means that no fans are allowed to watch.

No, you didn't.

I would argue that racism at a football match is certainly within FIFA's responsibility. It certainly is not their fault, and I would agree with you on that point.

Well racism is a problem in football. if it wasnt there would nt be all these problems like at the recent croatia game and also the spain friendly a couple of years ago

at no point have i said that football is to blame for racism

you said that racism was not FIFAs problem which it clearly is and that is what i have been saying. i was not talking about whose fault it was that there is racsim in society only that it is a problem in football

so i think you should open your narrow mind and take into account what people are saying before you reply

And be aware that "behind closed doors" means no supporters, therefore no police would be present and even if there were, there would be no skulls for them to crack as you so nicely put it.

When I said that Racism is not FIFA's problem, I meant generally, that's obvious.

Of course if the Croatian FA cannot sort out the racist chanting in a home match, then yeah FIFA should be hardline with it.

All FIFA can do is hit the National FA where it hurts, warn them that if they recieve a UEFA report about the racist chanting again in a home match, Croatia's next three home matches will be behind closed doors.

This should go for all National and Club sides.
It's not just a Croatian problem, it's all over the place.

Given the content of your posts and that several people of questioned that point, I would argue that your posts were less than obvious.

Yeah, basically they have to decide whether they're going to keep this charade up and achieve nothing or actually do something about it.

Wait until you get an incident involving British clubs though and see if there's a difference.

A £15k fine doesn't punish or condemn the behaviour of some Croatians, it actually condones and encourages it! FIFAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, just a sick joke!

If I meant that FIFA was (ultimatley) not responsible for the maintainance of racist chanting in football matches, why would I provide a solution to stop it?

Like Rangers vs Celtic every year?
I can't help backtracking from the Media etc, but I wouldn't change my view, even if it involved Reading FC.
