Back from the game ~ Wolves

by John 3:16 » 30 Sep 2008 23:01

That's more like it!

Great performance form the boys. Kébé looked much more like the player we see at home (still had somebody moaning that he was shocking behind me though). Rosenior had a few hairy moments, but also had some good moments. Bikey was solid at the back again, as was Ivar. Armstrong is going a bit unnoticed at the moment but I think (dare I say it) he's looking better than Shorey did now he's getting used to the team. Just my opinion though.

More of the same please boys.

Just back from the game

Great performance from the lads. It could have been 5 or 6 as well. We totally outclassed them after sussing their game plan.

Oh and it was handball.

A fine strike from Master SR to tuck his goal away in the competition at half time.

That was a lovely game, but what's wrong with this picture?

Wolverhampton Reading
Goals : 0 3
Possession : 45% 55%
Shots On Target : 10 3
Shots Off Target : 5 3
Corners : 5 12
Fouls : 12 5
Most Fouls : Henry (3) Kebe (2)
Yellow Cards : 1 0
Red Cards : 0 0

Scorers :
Hennessey 4 (og)
Bikey 71
Cisse 88

Check the Possession line. What is Reading doing with 55% of possession? Since when do Royals own the ball so much? I'm flabbergasted. Of course, I haven't paid much attention to these stats this season, but it always seemed to me that the other team had more possession. Is this squad so different or is this a one-game aberration?

Not that I'm complaining, mind you...

I logged onto the BBC online stats after 10 minutes and it said 78% possession Reading as well as 1-0. I nearly fell in my beer.

I think we have a great chance of going up. I really do. We didn't just win, we won convincingly away from home, at the league leaders. 3-0!

Listened to it on the radio, but we sounded like we played superb, they put some pressure on us but didn't really create much again.

Thinking before the game that we were just going to get a point at best, so to win so convincingly is absolutely brilliant. Actually, any win would have been absolutely brilliant.....ah, damn, I've used up all my adjectives.

3 shots on target and 3 goals? The radio suggested we had at least 2 shots cleared of the line

so is that 3 shots on target on top of the 3 goals or did we really score with our only shots on target?

Bloody brilliant, first game in 3 years since stewarding the Plymouth defeat!
Stuck in the Yam Yam's end with 3 Wolverhamton regulars who drink in my pub. Drove me there and back & they paid £30 quid for the privilage of getting me in.

Just wish I was with the boys.

I will upload my phone vid of the 3rd goal when I've finished cashing up the tills (In The New Inn in Worcester) a somewhat muted celebration you will understand.

Fu(king come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just not used to being quite so positive. I figure I'll never need more than one expression for it at a time.

The BBC stats didn't give us a shot on target until late in the 1st half (I assumed because they gave it as a Hennessey OG that it didn't count as a SOT for us). Just guessing mind...

Yeah, that can't be right. There were at least 3 clearances from the mad scramble that I still can't believe we scored from. First goal was an own goal wasn't it? So not a shot on target I guess.

No spit in the hair this time (or urine). The away fans were actually quite polite as I was leaving the area. Even had a "good game lads" from a couple. The stewards were ok too. Nothing like the play-off game.

games since harper been out = 2

games won = 2

goals scored = 7

goals against = 0

points = 6

conclusion: leave harper out....... YES

Well, I did get these numbers from the OS. Maybe that explains the accuracy of whichever stat one looks at.

Radio? What radio? You mean the one I can't get in New York?

Both Reading and Wolves OS game time updates pointed to the shots cleared off the line.

Just got back to rainy manchester.
I can't comment on our away form vs home form. This was my first live match this year. :(

I thought we looked like we weren't expecting much in the first half. Wolves had the best chances, and we played long ball. Nothing like the attacking football I had heard from reports of the home games. But neither did I expect it to be. Playing away, against the championship leaders, I expected resolute defending.

What I saw, in the second half, was a team. A proper team. Like the Reading from 2004-2005.
Kebe looked like Bambi on ice at times, and often lost the ball. But occasionally came through scrums of defenders, still holding onto the ball, to set up our most dangerous attacks. With a bit more confidence I think I will like him. Hopefully his assist tonight will give him that.
Steven Hunt still looks like he wants to give 110% to the team.
Bikey I loved tonight. Solid defending, and I was watching him on corners. He has an ability to run into areas that cause defenders real problems. Every corner he would run into the box and have 2 defenders tripping over each other.
The rest did everything that was asked. No-one shone, but no-one looked out of place either.
It just looked like a team of confident players.

I liked it.
