Denver Royal
Ian Royal So you are saying that had we survived by the flukiest of late Pompey goals the STGs would have had no point at all?

Well, if that had happened and we had survived, the RTG's would have sure felt like they had a point alright...and they would no doubt have been rubbing it in ever since, huh Ian?

BTW, my 'point' in that scenario would have been that, even though we had survived, it wouldn't have masked everything. We would still have fukced up massively and made a lot of mistakes/errors for us to have been so close to going down and for having put the club in a position of nearly doing so. In other words, whether up or down on the last day, the club screwed up this season...which I assume is an 'STG' view, right?

I imagine we'd have breathed a collective sigh of relief, metaphorically patted the club on the back for keeping us up and said "see told you so" whilst wiping the nervous sweat from our brow. Then got on about how to improve the squad for next year.

The thing you seem to miss is that no one said we were playing well or that all was fine in the readnig camp. They just weren't saying we were doomed, playing abysmally and had oxf*rd everything up totally. Nor that almost all our players were shit. I saw that 2nd example written a fair bit though.

Having confidence we'd stay up and faith in the playing & managment staff that had previously done so well, was not unfounded. At least not until we lost to Spurs.

It was only (proved to be) unfounded at 4.55 p.m. on 11 May 2008. At that time, the R(ealistic)TGs were proved to be founded in their concerns. Up until then all views, on both sides, were speculative.

As a note - I reckon you could argue that everyone from Wigan with 40 points could be described as struggling. Staying up and struggling are not mutually exclusive concepts.

Fair enough. I had lost sight of the original contention which was that "we would not be struggling" - even more optimistic than "we would not be relegated"!

Jeez! This thread is WAY WAY better than "Hard to see any progress for the forseeable future"! I am really officially bored with / of that one.

There was hardly any bickering on this one at all.
