Harper a little concerned

by Millsy » 10 Oct 2008 08:34

Allegedly Harper is getting a little concerned about his chances of getting back into the first team and isn't used to being left out.

My opinion is he's too good to be left out and whilst Coppell doesn't change a winning team, all it'll take will be one defeat or poor performance draw and he'll be back in at the first opportunity.

But what do others think? Think he is right to be concerned? Think it'll make him play better?

I would be extremely disappointed in any player that wasn't "concerned" about regaining his place in the team following an injury layoff. Having said that, and especially at RFC where SSC is extremely reluctant to change a winning team, Harper should (and probably does) realise that his time will come and when it does he has to grab his opportunity with both hands.

Competition for places can only be a good thing.

Teach him not to get injured.

Agree he is to good to be left out but it's also no coincidence we're playing better without him. He's too careful when he plays and not direct enough.

Now he needs to adapt his game and push for a recall. And that is healthy!

I think it's a good thing, he recognises how well we're paying. Obviously if the captain won't walk straight back into the sde doesn't this make a mockery of all the claims that SSC has favourites who he'll always pick no matter what?

A lesson learnt, thankfully.

well he wasnt really playing his best before he got injured... so maybe its not just the injury keeping him out of the team ?

technically Harper and Matejovsky are far and away the best midfielders we have, but i don't think that cuts it in this division. I think that Karacan and Gunnarsson are far more suited to what needed at the moment and would not be disappointed if Harper was left out for the forseeable future. Matejovsky im not so sure i would like to see him left out.

Harper is a good player. Despite this though he doesn't deserve just to walk straight back into a winning team.

Don't change a winning side. Nobody can expect to walk into the side. As long as we keep winning, Harps should be happy for the team, as much as he's frustrated personally.

FWIW I'd love Gunnar and Matejovsky as our central 2.

looks like coppell has at least learnt one of the lessons from last year, being a bit more ruthless in his team selection, and not afraid to change things round

1 bad game from Karacan or Gunnarsson and he'll be straight in.

I do fear that if either Harps or Marejovsky come back into the team then it will be at the expense of Karacan. Hopefully SSC realises how well Karacan has done and doesn't do this.

think we have to see that karacan isnt going to play every game this season, or any of the other young lads
games is what they need, but the pressure of playing week in week out may well be quite heavy.
if we lose, or he gets injured, or has a bad game, he'll be out for one of the others, and if they have a bad game, get injured or lose then jem will come back in
its what the squads for

Did you intend for everything in your message to contradict your opening remark?

He's not too good to be left out. If he wants back in the team then he should pull his socks up, both figuratively and literally.

Personally I'm more excited by the return to fitness of Matejovsky

Harper is too good to be left out ... however, he's been at Reading long enoughto know the way we do things ... he will get his chance but hopefully, not just yet !

Poor performances for the 1st team. Equally poor performance for the reserves.

Thanks for everything Harps, shut the door on your way out.

He'll be annoyed, but that's natural, anyway, he knows the score.
A competative squad is excellent.
