Church did really well. His second goal was excellent and against Premiership defenders and goalkeeper. He also won a couple of really good flick ons.
England deserved their win but Brian Flynn has done a brilliant job getting Wales this far..and most of their star under 21s, ie Bale, Gunter, Evans, Edwards, Hennessey etc are now playing for the senior team..

They were raving about him at Crewe last year.
The academy is starting to pay dividends, and from what I've heard the new batch of academy players (Walcott, Baggie, Mills etc.) are the most gifted we have ever had.

Or the standard of the Welsh senior team....
Good performance from what I caught in the pub last night....whether he has a future here is another question.
The Welsh have got their youth levels pretty sorted at the moment which is beginning to pay dividends at senior level...Brian Flynn is the manager of every youth side from U17 up with the sole remit of fast tracking the better players to the senior side.

So a Reading academy player has scored the only 2 goals Wales under 21s have ever scored against England!

The finishes don't particularly impress me, though there is nothing wrong with them. What does, is the way Chuch pulls away from his marker for the second to give himself space to receive the ball.

Yep that was very nice.
He actually looks quite strong for one so young. Maybe he could be a target man for us in the future (not that I'm sure he is talented enough for that).

The first goal was a marvelous finish, he was so close to Joe Hart that if he had hit it above ground level it would have been saved. The second he really made out of nothing, a simple ball to feet, Simon Church completely fooled a Premiership defence and fired home.

Premiership Defence? I take it you mean a defender who comes from a premiership club but doesn't play regularly in the first team? Awful defending from the guy who assumed Church would use his first touch to go outside, which gave him an acre of room to go inside unopposed.
Good play from Church, but awful defending. A couple of U21 goals do not make Church better than Long, I remind you Long has scored a couple at full international level. He's a good prospect but not there yet.

Steven Taylor, David Wheater, Michael Mancienne and Jamie O'Hara in defence.

Joe Hart didn't do much wrong for either goal, but then I wasn't criticising the 'keeping.
The first goal was comedy defending as well. A block straight into a team mate is fair enough, but to then lunge desperately at a ball you have no hope of getting, from the floor, whilst simultaneously getting in the way of the only team mate capable of getting to it first, is very poor defending IMO.
Not taking anything away from Church's finishing, or speed of thought and action to take advantage, but those two goals against England U21 do not mean he'd be good enough to regularly start for us should Doyle or NHunt be unavailable.
Saying that he's pretty good on the version of FM I have. Had a desperate striker situation and he had to come into the side. Scored 2 on his debut and very nearly kept my first choice players out of the side on their return to fitness.

The second goal reminded me of Lee Nogan's play off final effort against Bolton.
Ian is hard to please it was a cracking goal.
