Royal Lady
The 17 Bus Why on earth would we agree to take a player that we do not want, and try to sell him on straight away?????

Keep women out of football, that's what I say.
Gosh, I don't know - but seeing as I'm seemingly not in "iggy" - how about we get £10 million for Doyle and that's Villa's top whack - but they'll also throw in Harewood if we want him. Do we say "no thanks" and just take £10 million or do we say "oh go on then" and take £10 million plus a player which we can sell on for probably a couple of million. Even if we waited until the Summer transfer window? It's a toughie isn't it?

As you are active on a thread I have been interested in the answer is simple, if Villa value Doyle at £10m plus Harewood, they must have a value on Harewood, if we do not want Harewood then they will have to up thier cash offer on Doyle, and sell harewood elsewhere to make up the difference, or we walk away, tell me why we would take a player on the books we do not want?????

FWIW I wanted Harewood here a few years ago, when he failed at West Ham, but since then he has shown to be lacking in endeavour, and now would not want him here.

Don't want Harewood here. We need to keep Doyle here until the end of the seaon IMO, after that he can go, because I think that he will easily have repaid any debt he owes. Same goes with Hunt. 4 seasons - 2 promotions, excellent return on 70grand.

It's in the Lancashire Evening Post as well. Does that make it any truer?

And why would the Lancashire Evening Post be reporting on a possible transfer of an Irishman between a Berkshire club and a Birmingham club?

Doyle to Villa rumour has been going on for nearly two years now (if not more) not saying it won't happen but these stories and no more creedance to it.

From BBC Sport:

Reading's Kevin Doyle will sign for Aston Villa in January. The price tag - a mere £7m. (News of the World)

With the current transfer market I'm not sure what they mean by a mere £7m.

Can a moderator change the title of this thread please? He isn't going anywhere near West Ham.

If we can get Harewood + 7mil, then we should bite their hands off.

Harewood is a quality striker, he has pace, strength and can finish. Would be a perfect replacement IMO.

But seems very much against a return to the Championship, so for us to get him we'll need a top two placing or a very convincing place in the table to attract him here. And will he fit into our wage structure? No.

How do you know how much he is getting at Villa?

Story just seems a convenient extension of the old Doyle to Villa story - press have seen that Harewood isn't playing and also may take into account that he is from Reading and there's your "new" story.

He was on £25k at West Ham, and villa was a step up so would assume his wages went up with it. Even at 25k still, he'd need a 50% drop minimum to come here. I'm not even sure we'd offer 10k a week at this level.

But you're right, I don't know. I'm basing it on hear say.

Harewood is very hit and miss. Would prefer to give some of our existing strikers a chance if Doyle goes.

Harewood is an established goal scorer. The rest of our strikers are completely unproven.
