Preston Away - a difficult place to get a result?

by SpaceCruiser » 14 Oct 2008 15:49

I'll probably be checking the head to head stats in a while, but I'm just wondering aloud here whether Preston is a difficult place to go to and get any sort of result? I know the last time we played there we won 3-0, with Lita banging in two goals, but will we repeat that feat (considering that some of our players will be coming back from the international break)? I remember the past fixtures we've had up there we've lost. Also, I'm fairly sure some of us and especially the Preston fans will remember our antics when Martin Allen was the assistant manager to Alan Pardew. Now how did it go? Warming up in the same half before the game just to wind them up, and Nicky Forster and Martin Butler scoring (whom they tried to sign before we nicked them two) to nick a point off them. The 2-2 result was seen as a good result considering how well Preston were doing and in the aftermath the Preston lot were moaning about us. I'm sure we all LOL'ed at them. Do they still hold a grudge against us, I wonder?

I see that they're playing well recently, if their current league position is anything to go by, so I'm guessing we'll have a difficult game this Saturday. A draw would be a fantastic result, I reckon.

They have lost their last 4 games incl home defeats to Swansea and Wolves. They haven't been scoring many, best striker Mellor with 5 (I think). Nicholson has 3. No other goal scorer on any kind of form at the moment.

If we can keep our away form as it was last time we should get the 3 points.

Brum and Wolves have potentially tricky games. Our first chance to go top?

Just looked at the table, a bit surprised to see them in 12th place, weren't they in a play-off position a couple of weeks before?

Right, just looked up the head to head stats on soccerbase.com....

Having won there in 1984, 1991 and 2005, I presume our next victory there will be in 2026!

Overall Pld 23 W 3 D 5 L 15 F 21 A 68 that's an average of 0.9 goals a game for and 2 goals a game against!

Another reason to ignore statistics and just get on with it.

I think we can confidently predict that there will be a result unless the game is cancelled / abandoned.....

When was the period that they had their astroturf? By that question, I mean when did they switch to astro and then back to grass? I remember going up to Preston for a weekend in 1991 to see my mate who was at the university there and we won on 2-1 on the astro. It was a cold day too.

52 fans to be exact. Your memory must be fading. Craig Maskell with the equaliser. In all the years I've been going to Deepdale. I've seen Reading win there once. I'd love it sssooooooo much if it became twice on Sat. You still going dude? I'll send you a text or give you a call nearer the day if so so we can arrange meet up etc.

That was the 2-2 draw I mentioned in my initial post, I think.

twas the 3rd game of the season, and after the disappointment of the plymouth game the previous week this was somewhat surprising and was the first real indication of something special!

I will be happy with a draw, to keep our points total on track... A chance to go top though unlikely.

I think we will hit the top spot next Saturday although we have a good chance against Donny on Tuesday.

1 point saturday and 6 from the next two home games will do nicely.

Has their 4th and final new stand been built yet? I know they started work on it last year so it can't be far off if not already finished.

Will make for a nice stadium when it's complete.

Crap atmosphere in there though, and an annoying bunch of chavs chanting P.N.E all the time in the away stand in the corner. They should be shot.

In the top 3 or 4 Reading away performances ever. Totally ruined them, which made the LOLs at the PNE fans who were chanting 'EASAY. EASAY' at 0-0 when they got a corner even more hearty. ALOL @ any team that concedes to a Glen Little header, he's worse in the air than the Big Bopper.

Given the usual return from Deepdale, this was the first sign to me that 2005/06 could be a very good year for RFC - this culminated in us winning at Ipswich 3-0 in mind-BNovember to go top of the league. I then knew we would win the league and win it in style...

Finished in the summer, total capacity of 22,000.

Anyone who gets to Deepdale early and doesn't fancy going to the pub, check out the National Football Museum. It's where the Simod Cup is kept nowadays.

Yes it is a difficult place to go and get a result, if not impossible. The home fans are Velociraptors, the pitch is made out of glass and the away changing room is on fire.
