Team for Burnley

by SCIAG » 26 Oct 2008 09:36

I'd like:

Hahnemann

Rosenior
Monster (Bikey)
Pearce
Armstrong

Henry
Marek/Gunnarsson
Karacan
S. Hunt

N. Hunt
Doyle

Subs: Andersen, Cisse, Convey, Kebe, Mooney/Long

We'll get: the team that started against QPR, with Harper in for Karacan.

I'm slightly worried that a Jem-Marek midfield partnership will be too lighweight...

When you look at our squad these days there are numbers of players (the old so-called strength in depth) but quality?
Yesterday both the Hunts,Kebe and Bikey looked like players who know that however badly they play they will not get dropped.
Generally the 4-4-2 hasn't worked away from home but if we persevere with 2 wingers can we have the further luxury of 2 out and out strikers?
The problem is that the players probably haven't worked on a 4-5-1 so it would be risky to go with that in a game just a couple of days away-also a settled back 4 is imortant for continuity especially as we have given away just 3 goals in the last 4 games.

As a radical change I would have gone with the same back 5 with both Henry and Kebe playing wide and a midfield 3 of Harper, Marek and Jem with those joining Doyle as quickly as possible in attacks.
The pace of that attacking 6 could cause havoc.
People always think that you have to play with a specific holding midfielder but I think if you have enough mobility and pace you can take the game to the opposition and let them worry about you.
Let's face it Cisse hasn't been an unbridled success in that role and is both reckless and unaware and Bryn looks tired and paceless and we don't have a Mascherano or a Kolo Toure.

It won't happen of course but we have been less than successful at Charlton,Ipswich,Preston and even Forest playing 4-4-2 with all these teams struggling to beat anybody else and it's starting to look as though the Wolves game may have been a freak result.
So it will be same again on Tuesday and hang on to the hope that if we get enough corners and free-kicks we might snatch a goal or two-eat your heart out Wimbledon.

Just because Kebe hasn't done much for the last 2 games everyone wants him out of the team and Henry in.

I wouldn't mind having Henry back on the bench though for a bit of a cutting edge if needed

rg6royal Just because Kebe hasn't done much for the last 2 games everyone wants him out of the team and Henry in.

And because Henry is a very good player in his own right who has only been kept out of the first team because of Kebe's good form. If Jem has two bad games, Marek or Harps will come in because there's so much competition for places. It's the same on the right.

I am not a Henry lover but I agree with you.

I think Kebe needs a bit of a rest. I'm talking a couple of games. Then we can bring him back in raring to go.

We can't play away from home with 10 men, so Kebe and Harper cannot start.

Marcus
Rosenior Inga Bikey Armstrong
Karacan Cisse Bryn
NHunt Shunt
Doyle

Subs:

Andersen
Harper
Henry
Long
Mooney

I like that but would rather have Kebe on the bench instead of Long.

a tad harsh on Ingi who was the only defender to win a ball in the air all game

USA

Rosenior Ingi Bikey* Armstrong

Kebe Harper Karacan S Hunt

N Hunt

Doyle

Subs:
Andersen
Matejovsky (to come on if the game needs changing only)
Gunarsson (to go 4-5-1 if we have a lead to defend)
Pearce
Mooney

* with a huge rocket up his arse for being so damn complacent yesterday. Not the player I saw keep Liverpool so quiet at Anfield last year but for one slip against torres.

Just a thought - but I would like to see either Noel drop deeper to support the midfield in away games. I think the gung-ho steam roller approach away from home needs to wait until we get some confidence on our travels and puts us under pressure for too long. We need to be harder to beat and keep the ball. The other option might be to play Harper in a sort of gerrard/scholes free role behind Doyle, leave Noel on the bench as he is too small to be a target man and start with Marek alongside Karacan but behind Harper in a 4-4-1-1 formation.

I'd love to say we'd get something at Burnley, but if we go 4-4-2 with the same 11 that started yesterday best we can hope for is a point.

Federici; Murty, Pearce, Bikey, Armstrong; Kebe, Harper, Matejovsky, Shunt; Doyle, Nunt
Sub: Hahnemann, Ingi, Convey, Karacan, Lita

We'll get Harper coming into midfield, and a possible defensive reshuffle. Otherwise, same old.

This has nothing to do with the Burnley match,
But does anybody know why you can't purchase tickets for the Bristol City game next Saturday, using the online ticketing service?
