Yes we've lost ground on the leading two and yes others are catching us, but it's early days and we're still very much in the running for the division. We need to ditch the poor form and get a winning streak going. Plus get rid of the woeful away form. But we're still in 3rd, people. It's not all doom and gloom yet.

Yes, it is fair to say that almost all of us missed the fact that Cardiff winning and demoting us a place was merely Plaid Cymru propaganda.

And the gulf between us, Wolves and Birmingham is slowly getting wider. While slowly but surely the likes of Cardiff have crept up and passed up by. Away form will currently stuff us completely if not carefull.
What makes the Championship such an exciting prospect is the yo yo of all clubs who if they hit the right vein can break out of this league. This team on paper have automatic promotion written all over them. The reality is slightly more ambiguous.

Cardiff play Wolves this weekend, so as long as we win, we gain in some shape/form.

We have to concentrate on ourselves.

Despite alot of negativity from people on here it looks as if the majority are confident of promotion.

i think the play offs is more likely
our away form does not give me any real confidence that we can get automatic promotion
home form is awesome and if it continues play offs will be pretty much guaranteed

imo once january has gone we will have a better idea of where our season is going

I would analyse that we only have a 20% chance of winning promotion this season.

Its a realistic possibility but we are more likely not to go up than we are to go up this season.

Birmingham probably have a 65% chance of promotion and Wolves are ranked at 50/50. Wolves are touch and go. They could be caught by a resurgent Royals or resilient Cardiff City side. But both Reading and Cardiff would need to show a marked improvement and both clubs are capable of that.

The way things are looking right now though is that Reading won't be able to get the level of consistency needed to maintain a top 2 position in the league. We are just not dominant or solid enough to be a top 2 side. We can blow anyone away on our day, but we are not well organised and solid enough to pick up the points when its not our day.

That means its the lottery of the play-offs where anyone from 4 could go up. Reading should be one of the stronger play-off sides. But if we can't win away, what happens when we meet Bristol City in the play-offs and we beat them 2-1 at home and lose 2-0 away? We'll be staying down.

Anything can happen in January. We can either find the strength needed to make the improvement to get into the top 2, providing we can stay close enough to them between now and January, or we could be severley weakend by the departure of key personnel.

As of right now, we can't be more than a 20% hope for promotion.

hmm it seems we could easily finish 1st...as well as 24th. time will tell where we finish. We should all be hoping we finish in the top 2

Tbh Birmingham seem to get lucky with their results as they often scrape the 1-0 win. But on the other hand that can be a sign of a good team. We are very much capable of winning this league but our Away form will decide this.

I think it does. I really don't think we'll get relegated back to League One at the end of 2011/12 season, not with the current squad we have, with the young talent coming through. I really hope, if nothing else, the players prove you all wrong this season by gaining promotion back to the premier league cos im sick of reading pessimistic views and some of you may claim you have a realistic view, but i expect nothing more than success from the team and if that means hitting a few bumpy roads along the way, i.e being relegated from the prem, losing top players to other so called 'bigger' clubs, then those are the things the club must learn from. Bristol City fans said they'd love to aspire to be like us in a few years time, so if any of you DONT believe Reading can do it this season and only hold negative views/opinions, why are you supporting the royals?

Anyway, it's like a marriage. You can't help who you fall in love with and through rough and smooth you want the relationship to blossom, but sometimes you just have to be realistic and accept that they'll let you down.
