I wasn't talking about YOU slagging the BCFC fans off and as for my comment you quoted, you are way short of the mark if you think that I am racist in any shape or form, same goes for Schards. I just don't think that getting wound up about what opposition fans call our players is worth it - that was the point I was trying to make.

Okay listen and listen carefully because you seem to lack the ability to read.

YOU very specifically said these words.

If Hunty actually was a "gypo or pikey" or whatever names he was being called, you might have a point about the racial slant

This is wrong. You and Schards attempts to defend this statement highlighted a tacit approval of the behaviour. You need to oxf*rd think about that before you try twisting other peoples words to make you feel better.

And to clarify - what I meant by my comments, although I've obviously not put them in simpler terms for those that need them, the BCFC fans weren't racially abusing Hunty per se, because he isn't a gypsy/traveller/pikey whatever people wish to call them - THAT is what I meant.

our travelling brethren call themselves pikeys, and even gypos so it cant be that bad-or is it like our black friends reclaiming the n word?

all of this is a bit gay though, can we stop now, by just saying racism is bad,
and leave it at that

I remember at Bury, once, a group of fans decided to aim abuse at Baichung Bhutia, the tamer end of which were a number of references to chop suey and the like. Presumably, the fact that he's Indian and not Chinese means that he wasn't being racially abused? to draw another parallel, when I was at school I can remember people considered to be tight being labelled with anti-semitic language like "Jewboy", despite the fact that - as it was a C of E school, no less - nobody was actually Jewish (and that's obviously without touching on the idea that Jews are misers...)

The point I keep making is that these terms are racist, regardless of whether or not the person to which they're directed is actually from that racial group. To use these terms (or, IMO, condone their use) in a perjorative and derogatory way implies that you think that these groups are themselves inferior and open to abuse. It is casual racism like this to which Zac and I (and others, for that matter) object.

As for whether or not I've complained, well - as I've said above - I have complained about individuals before yes. However, I've generally found that the police and stewards are reluctant to do anything constructive about it. I remember at a Cambridge game once somebody decided to lay into the ref for being black. A number of us asked the police and stewards to remove him, and in the end all that the police would do was to suggest to him during half-time that he might like to leave, voluntarily, for his own safety. There is very little will within the game to face up to racists (and homophobes, for that matter) and remove them. The FA needs to toughen up a bit, though - a few large fines or points-docking might stimulate clubs to take the issue more seriously.

Nevermind, you still haven't learnt anything.

How many times does this have to be explained?

Calling someone a gypo or pikey just because they have long hair isn't racist. We have established this haven't we?

Unfortunately I simply don't have time to waste spending hours discussing this which is a pity because I would love to address the vile accusations you have spouted on the thread by you.

My position is, as it always was, that the song "wheres your caravan" is addressed at people with long hair and that this is not comparable to to throwing bananas at black players.

To be accussed of being racist by a smug piece of shit like you for having that opinion utterly discusts me. You are typical of the ignorant arrogant w@nkers who it is impossible to discuss the issue of race with as you immediate revert to calling anyone who doesn't agree with your views a racist.

By saying the two scenarios are the same you demean the genuine racism of the banana throwing and actually do the cause of kick racism out of football more harm that good. But, of course, you aren't as concerned about that as you are about getting your moral highground in place and trying to seek out someone to criticise in others to make you feel better about yourself.

Why don't you ask the many hundreds of people who will have sung that song whether they would throw bananas at black players. Your ignorant blinkered views would actually be better aimed at them rather myself who at no stage of this debate has defended this song (nor ever sung it). Then you could go on to tell them you consider them the sort of person who throws bananas at black players and hopefully one of them kick some sense into you because god knows you need it you arrogant, ignorant, offensive lowlife.

You're by no means the only person guilty of casual racism in regards to the term "gypo" etc. A great many of us have done exactly the same in the past (myself included). What is a great shame, Schards, is that you haven't had the good grace to admit it.

I know of a few cases where individual stewards have been reluctant to take action at a match but a complaint after, giving details of the steward and what was said, have resulted in serious action against that individual. Similarly, I've also known of complaints which have been ignored by the club but where the local licesning authority has taken action - they are *extremely* interested in hearing about such things. Yes, the punishments aren't fines or points, but it's certainly a start and it does hurt the clubs concerned.

Alos, never foregt that, during a match, any supporter has the right to ask to speak to the Senior Steward of the stand they are located in. Refusal of this is grounds for a complaint which the club will have to answer. And every steward *should* have at least a name badge clearly visible and ideally a large identifying number which enables them to be identified.

Fuck me, can you either point at where i;ve been "guilty of casual racism in regards to the term "gypo" or, alternatively apologise for that offensive remark.

It amazes me that people who think it's offensive to sing a song about someones hair see nothing offensive in labeling people as racists when to my mind, that is a far more offensive slander.

It await your immediate apology/correction once you've actually read what i've actually said.

I'm not going to apologise. To be clear, I am not accusing you of throwing racist abuse at players or anything of the like. But your posts, in which you do not seem to get a grip that these terms might be considered offensive in whatever context they're used, indicate at best ignorance, at worst casual racism. HTH.

It is, you know. It really, really is. Hundreds of people used to make monkey noises at matches, just because lots of people do something doesn't make it right. I'm hugely offended by the anti-Romany sentiment - I just don't feel I can complain because I have no desire to be hounded out of my club's stadium by people screaming 'IT'S NOT RACIST!'

I only ever heard it sung by about 3 kids of about 14 - away at Brum in the Cup.
