I think locking it is for the best. Schards seems incapable of seeing what the issue is here at all, and that's really really sad.

Whilst Schards Ad Hominems because he can't defend himself are amusing, I'm not sure Schards hole can get any deeper.

BobKnows, if you're not going to apologise, you are going to have to demonstrate when I have been guilty of casual racism which is what you accused me of.

If you can't do that (and you won't be able to) then if you've got any decency about you, you should apologise.

Prostak - throw a banana at a black player and see what sort of response you get from the player, the opposing fans, the home fans, the stewards and the police.

Then have a pop at someone with long hair and see if the response is the same.

This thread makes me feel like I'm driving along the westbound M4 while on the eastbound carriage there has been a huge pileup.... you know you shouldn't look and that people are getting hurt but you can't help yourself gawking.....

Presumably someone is going to mention the Daily Mail at some point ?

ZacNaloen I'm incapable of arguing these points so it's best this thread is locked to save me having to any more. In the meantime, i'll post some cheap shot and hope no one notices.

I would imagine Zac will call someone a Nazi at some point in the belief that this wins the argument in some way. What an absolute tool he is.

ZacNaloen I think locking it is for the best. Schards seems incapable of seeing what the issue is here at all, and that's really really sad.

I think everyone seems incapable of remembering this forum is about the team, not sad little point scoring about whether the term "pikey" or "gypo" or a song like "where's your caravan" is racist or not. Take it to PM

Can we just agree to disagree on this one? I've explained. You've explained. We just clearly have very different views. I honestly never wanted to get into a slanging match with you.

I would like BobKnows apology to be on the public forum first. He's made some vile slanderous accusation and needs to correct them.

Ditto for Zac but there's little hope that he will ever actually understand quite what an offensive human being he is.

Absolutely not, you've made an offensive allegation. You need to withdraw it.

It's all a question of degree though, isn't it?

Low-level, implict abuse (racist, homophobic and other types) based upon stereotypes is all around us, and usually goes unnoticed or semi-condoned because it's the norm.

It might be a lot less obvious and extreme as throwing bananas, but that doesn't mean it isn't actually racist - the differences are that it's not so obvious racist and - importantly - it's not intended to hurt or wound.

But in the 80's (and in Spain & Croatia today) I'm sure there were many people making monkey noises who weren't intending it to hurt and who didn't think it was racist - it was just the norm then. As the barriers on what is acceptable get rolled back ever further it's inevitable that some things which were "normal" now become "racist" and unacceptable.

The big question is where the line of "acceptable" lies today - and that's down to individuals.

Do we have any pikey players or are they merely Irish?
