gazzer, loyal royal I am getting more and more sick of his look up and punt down the line. He can't pick a pass into midfield and cost us two goals on saturday.

Gald Murty is back in training just in time

I can't actually believe how much rubbish gets spouted on this board. Was the Southampton game your first of the season or something? As it certainly looks like you basing it on that.

Roseinor has been one of our most consistant players so far this season. Usually his distrubution is very good, but like the whole team on Saturday they were all below par. If your sick of Rosenior's "look up and punt it down the line", what about starting a thread on Bikey's messing around at the back and SHunt's shocking first touch.

ok then, count how many times he gets the ball each game and lumps a hopeful ball up the line. I would start a thread about Bikey's messing around or HUnts shocking first touch, but it has already been done. I agree that he has got us out of trouble with his pace, but he has one option and that is the lump up the park. He only puts in a decent ball 1 out of 10 crosses. Remember against derby, beating his man and hoofing it into the north stand a la Hughes.

But as a right back or a left back for that matter, what other options do you have when you can't play the ball back to your centre back or centre midfielder? The only option you have to to play it to your right winger. Don't forget that Kebe isn't slow and can out pace most left backs. Yes he might get it wrong, but he is only human. The thing is you're only looking at the negative things from Roseinor, don't forget that on their day Rosenior and Kebe are very good at linking up with each other.

Also the next game you to watch how many crosses that Rosenior stops/blocks.

Oh yeah and also it was Cisse who cost us the second goal. He tried to be clever and let the ball run past his body, without realising that a southampton player was coming in behind him.

JimmytheJim i think it's generally the older generation who can't see in shades of grey, on hna at least. just as people grow more conservative, grumpy and irrational as they age, so they start to see football in extremes. so much for the benefits of experience. in my time watching reading, the only real moaners i've ever encountered have always been older people, and they've always been oxf*rd.

If he's so rubbish how come he's been part of an awesome Reading team so far all season?

Every player can learn and improve though. Pointing out criticism is not a bad thing.

I don't care if Rosey is a one-trick pony, he’s been performing it very well this season. He’s defended resolutely, he has passion and some of the combination play with Kebe has been devastating. He just seems to have the occasional absolute stinker, Charlton and Saints being the examples this season. Is the explanation the type of player he faced in those games? I don’t know, Bouazza’s obviously very quick, but I’m not sure Wright-Phillips was any faster than some of the players Liam’s put in his pocket in other games. I think it might be down to relatively poor passing – he can do the simple stuff OK, but when left isolated or in a tight corner (as Bikey and Kebe constantly left him on Saturday), he swiftly descends into panic mode. Then he loses positional sense and the rest is inevitable. He clearly really cares about his and the team’s performance, which makes him edgy when things aren’t going well. But he’s been one of our best performers this season, so I see no reason to want Murty back just yet.

I hope that you are paying for your own education at University of Warwick because I'd hate to think that I'm contributing through my taxes to helping you come up with this absolute cobblers of a statement.

Rosenior is the best we have available at the moment. He did not play well on Saturday but neither did plenty of others.

it's not exactly a big secret that there is a very clear link between age and conservativism. the older you get, the more you look back fondly and the stronger your attachments to ideals like tradition. that's just a fact, it's not anything particularly special, and you'll find it verified by any source you care to check. and there's nothing 'absolute cobblers' about the fact that the real moaners i've encountered at the mad stad are the older folk. even west stand man will agree with me on that one. probably, lumping 'grumpy' and 'irrational' in alongside conservative wasn't a great way to endear myself to the more traditionalist types, but to hell with 'em.

rosenior has been awesome so far this season
just because he played badly against southampton doesnt mean he should be out of the team. if that was the case we would have a whole new line up for the game tonight

murty is way past it and should only be used as back up imo

Murts still has loads to offer, but 'greed that 1 game doesn't make you a bad player. Murts has responded to Ros's excellent start and I quote Fearny "Murts is the fittest player in the squad now!" when he gets match fit he'll keep Ros on his toes but will probably have to wait until Ros has a few bad games or gets injured just like Ros had to wait in the wings last year before Murts got injured.

But responding to your last point, I recall threads last season wanting Murts back to save us from relegation, but it was unfortunate he only managed to return for the last game at Derby. 6 months out doesn't make you a bad player, just an unfit player. How old is Gary Neville? I believe he is the same age as Murts. He was out for a year.

I guess time will tell.......

LOL. Yeah, all he ever did was hoof the ball aimlessly like Rosenior - he never overlapped and linked up well with wingers, which is why he never got any assists...

Do you actually go to football or do you watch Reading Town on a Saturday?

Have you seen Rosenior play recently? I thought you were boycotting Reading this season?

Seen him against Forest, Charlton and QPR this season and he's been exactly the same player as he was before in every game - he just has poorer players up against him. That's the whole thing about this season, people are assuming that we're doing brilliantly just because we're knocking goals in against shit opposition. The team we have now would still get relegated from the Premiership.

Rosenior has one big problem that he needs to get over and that's when he's the defender at the back post and the ball is whipped across the face of goal. In this situation he allows the attacker to peel off him far too easily and get a free header. This is how we conceded the first goal on Saturday, and the same was true of the two goals we conceded at Stamford Bridge in our first season in the Prem. I am sure I have seen this on other occasions too, against Chelsea sticks out as I remember watching the replays on TV. Other teams will have noticed this and will exploit it. There were a couple of similar situations where he was caught flat footed at the back post on Saturday and Southampton could and should have taken advantage.

That being said, I think Rosenior's attacking play is quality, and you could argue that Chris Armstrong or Nicky Shorey are equally to blame for allowing the crosses to come in. I don't think Rosenior is happy about it as you can see he's annoyed with himself when he knows it's his fault. It's very difficult to find a player that is equally as good defending as they are going forward so you have to find a balance that you're happy with. I personally think Rosenior generally does a good job of getting round the winger - and does a pretty good job of getting back into a defensive position too (something Murty struggled with in the pace of the Prem).
