Stoke were dead quiet the year we lost 3-0 to them. You must have only started watching reading last year?

Stoke have never been loud, but that's because there's rarely been more than about 12,000 of them in the stadium

Sorry, I've never sung anything in my life, and I'm not going to start now. And I'm not middle class. I pays my money and I goes home hoarse; but tweet like a twat I will not.

I had a singing lesson the other day. I would be quite happy to lead the crowd in a warm up before the game. A few scales and a shed load of booze.

Pic of Rochelle (singing teacher), if anyone wants a lesson i'll PM her mobile

Stevie Coppels Barmy Army went on and on at the beginning of the game. I dont normally like it when it keeps going, but it was quite good, it spread up and down the east stand. Something that you can keep chanting i suppose.

2 world wars, 1 world cup There's nothing wrong with this thread

What IS wrong is the massive abuse starting such threads gets, which is indicative of the real problem with Reading fans...

We're largely a bunch of Southern Softies who hate the idea of being too passionate. Even talking about it makes us cringe let alone actually opening our mouths, risking our affluent posh southern reserved reputations and joining in with a chant or two except for when we're winning 4-0 at home perhaps.

What's the use of such threads which happen to point out one of the most important shortcomings of our beloved club? The more we point it out and discuss it the more likely it is we'll actually do something about it, whether it be a singing section, better acoustics, shifting stands, 'bringing back the southbank' etc etc...

unfortunately any such thread here will result in you being told to "shut and and be quiet", just as is the case pretty much on the stands.

we are no different from 98% of the clubs in the football league

football has become more "family oriented", we even have the pass it, beep beep pass it you beep beep muppet advert telling us all not to swear

as a result the vast majority of home support is quiet

the away support is less family focussed

the stewards are worried about trouble between our "vocal" section and the away support, so instead of housing them in the east stand move them behind the goal in the north stand

What you could do is ask for a safe standing area for 2,500 fans and have 3 of them what are jotted around the ground. Some Germany clubs still have standing areas. If you can't get a standing area then I would advise you all to come to Scours Lane were you can stand with no hassel :)

while safe standing is, in my opinion, a good idea, it would require a change in the law before it can happen at league grounds.

while i may be able to stand at scours lane, atmosphere?

The club's stance on this is "We built an all seater stadium to attract families, we're not going to go back on this now"

Also the ridiculous "People died at Hillsborough because they were standing up", at which point any argument the club came out with lost the ounce of credibility it may have had.

I'm sure any club's stance could be changed by the fact that, in terms of space requirements, you could legally sell 80% more tickets for the same space in a safe-standing area, which is a very cheap stadium expansion.

But, as you say, there must be a change in legislation first. That's being worked on and some progress is being made - but it's very slow.

No idea who at the club is telling you thios. I doubt this really is the clubs stance. Their hands are tied.

if they introduce a standing zone they would not get a safety certificate for it so it would be empty

they could easily turn a section of the south stand into a safe standing area and sell cheaper tickets, as long as it is additional income (ie we get new fans to replace thoe that move to the cheaper standing area). It does match the clubs "flexible pricing policy" of any stadium expansion.

However it has sod all to do with the club at the moment,
once the law is changed then they can consider it

there is no point discussing it with the club at the moment, you need to discuss it with your MP first!
