The way the club does it business we'll never know the buyer until the deal is done (if it's true)

Personally I think the time is right for a change at the top.
JM is a Legend but the next step is a step too far for him and hats off to him for admitting as much.

I'll watch this space with interest.

I can't see JM walking away totally after all this time, so a place on the board i would guess, I think I could get used to the idea of Branson coming along to move us to the next level now, having been against the thought in the past. I feel sure that RFC will be pleased I have altered my views.

I could see JM taking the currently vacant post of Club President as an honorary role but really can;t see him staying on as a board member.
He's been in sole charge for so long, and likes to have absolute control, and I can;t see him being willing to simply be one of a number of decision makers.

Would he want to sit and watch as someone else makes significant changes to the way the club operates ? Would someone else want him sat there whilst they reshape the club in the way they see necessary ?

I'll drop him an email.....

I'm sure he'll be pleased, entitles him to graze his sheep on the pitch and use one of the first year apprentices as a foot stool.

I'm not too bothered about a new owner being English or not, I'm more bothered about their motives and the way they will run and treat the club.

JM has been a bit of a god send. Although I think at times he could've been a little more open with his cheque book he'll end up leaving us in a very healthy position and, for the main part, he's run us with a pretty good blend of sensible ambition, common sense and class.

I'd hate for my club to become a laughing stock like Newcastle (an English 'billionaire' who seems to have no clue whatsoever), a crass plaything like Chelsea, or a club in nehind the scenes turmoil like Liverpool or massive debts like Man Utd.

A new owner is inevitable but I hope it's someone that follows similar principles to JM and will run the club along similar lines. I'd be very surprised if JM sells to anyone who wouldn't though so I'm not overly concerned right now.

Someone like Branson, or a Bill Gates, who've built up businesses by empowering the people around them would do for me.

AlexY25 If the billionaires English I don't mind.

I like that our club is owned by an Englishman.

But not sure if I believe it. Oh well.

It is just a rumour or gossip.

Madejski is Polish. The clue is in the name I think.

Wiki = John Robert Madejski OBE DL (born Robert John Hurst on April 28, 1941 in Stoke-on-Trent) is an English businessman

If he's going to run the club along similar lines - i.e. trying to make the club self-sufficient, without large injections of cash - why does it matter how much money he's got?

He is definitely English. Madejski is his step-father's name, as any true Reading fan would have known.

Because I'd that, in a similar fashion to JM, he'd be willing to inject a significant amount of cash along the way to either see us through the lean times or to help us make that jump up that will come about by an injection of cash.

That's not to say Mr X will not run the club as reasonably self sufficient or under the right kind of ethics and with the right kind of image, but he could still make the kind of money available that the club needs to continue to move onwards and upwards.

Why? Wikipedia is a remarkably reliable source. It's an not acceptable source in academic publications because it's not peer reviewed, but that doesn't stop it being a fund of valuable information.
