Calling stattos for Coppell

by 1960 » 19 Dec 2008 11:33

With his fifth anniversary just gone and twenty managers having been sacked already this season I was wondering where SSC now stands in the league table for length of service for managers. There are Fergie and Wenger of course, but even Dario Gradi was sacked by Crewe (although he has now been asked back).

So has anyone got this information?

Gradi wasn't sacked, was he? I thought he just decided to retire from management, and was moved 'upstairs' by the board as a thank-you?

and he's moved back again, now.

Graham Turner at Hereford since 1995 ish - and he's chairman, CEO and tea lady as well.

I find it mad that over 35 out of 92 league clubs have had their manager for less than a year. Football managers turn over like mad nowadays. It must be almost 10 years since we sacked a manager now.

Surely that list should only include perioods spent in the main leagues. Accrington Stanley were non-league for a large part of the 9+ years shown in that list and I think Hereford were as well

but he has still been there manager since that date, he didn't just become their manager when they got promoted to the football league.

the list records the current football league sides and how long their manager has been in that position

and probably about 10 minutes since someone posted on this board about how Coppell isn't 'right for Reading' or cannot progress us for the foreseeable future

Although that is true, much of the turnover is simply due to knock-on effects due to the fact that the jobs only rotate among a group of 92 people (or at least it seems like it).

I agree about the one year thing but what leapt out at me was only 16 managers over three years in post..so few clubs farsighted enough to stick with
a manager come hell and high water because they believe they are the right person and they need enough time to get the club and team where it needs to be.
I know this might seem easy for an MU or Arse at the top of the tree but maybe a few clubs lower down might have built in the right direction with a real look at continuity and club development..oh sorry, Have just talked about our club..well done JM.

I'm sure I remember reading a quote from JM that said Coppell would have left the club if we hadn't gone up in 05/06.

I remember during one of Pardew's bad runs, only about 54% of this board voted to keep him, so we are no different. Bad runs were a pattern with Pardew, but so were good runs; I think both West Ham and Charlton pulled the trigger too soon.

Does someone have to update that page to get the right "Time as manager", or is there some clever html thing doing it? :|

I can't see anyone ever replacing Coppell.
Surely the best RFC manager ever?
Long live SC, I wouldn't mind him sticking around for another 20-odd years.
'Course, he might be a bit old by then.
SC to stick with us until retirement? Yesplease!

And even going out of the FL, Nigel Clough has been at Burton for ten years now, and look at the progress they have made. A league club shortly.........?

Consistency (NSS) and stability are the keys.
