Footage of Feds goal

by North stander » 27 Dec 2008 19:37

As ITV has proved themselves to be useless in their coverage i was wondering if anyone has link to footage of the goal? For those that refuse to be ripped off by Reading world.

looks like Rosenior back-headed the ball into Chopra's path, which explains the lack of an offside flag

The link doesn't work from this site. You have to go the virginmedia.com page.

Don't think it does, he was offside from the origianal pass (twice) and it looks like there was a push in the back as well.

Still its all academic and without it we would never have had A Fed up for the corner.

You can't tell from the replay whether he was offside for the original pass, because you can't even see Armstrong on the clip, and the angle is too acute to really see whether or not he was in line with Ivar. I'm certain he was in line with Ivar when the ball came off Rosenior's head, which is academic anyway, as it's been pointed out.

the offside rule has changed now, and players aren't offside until they actually become active in the play, which is why you get so many "late" flags these days - until the attacker actually gets in possession, you don't get a flag.

Had Rosenior missed it, he probably would have been offside. The fact that Rosenior wouldn't have known that, and he had to try and do something, makes it a pretty silly rule in my book.

But it's true, without it we wouldn't have had Federici's goal, and we'd have probably been moaning about a crap 0-0 draw and there'd be a 19 page thread about how we really are rubbish now that we've been "found out".

.
Picture is too small to get a really clear view but watch our first corner in slow motion. Real time my son was shouting for a penalty and claiming their defender knocked the ball away with a raised arm and, judging from the reactions of Duberry and Ivar in the clip, it looks as though some of our players may have thought the same.

And you don't think Chopra was close enough to the Rosenior and the ball to be deemed to have been 'active' (the attacker doesn't have to be in possession for that to happen) i.e. involved in active play by:- interfering with play or - interfering with an opponent?

Would Rosenior even have bothered to try to head the ball but for the fact he knew Chopra was right in his back?

Another poor decision by the officials if there was no other Reading player keeping Chopra on side.

It was offside. I remember it vividly from my spot in Y25 which was almost in line. I can't understand why the linesman, who was also almost in line (as opposed to where he should have been which was directly in line), couldn't see that it was offside. It's not as though it was a difficult decision because the linesman had the line 6 yards out all across the pitch to use as a reference point. As for Rosenior's missed header, it's irrelevant whether he touched it or not because Chopra was offside when the original header came in. As soon as the ball dropped to him the flag should have gone straight up.

If you're talking about Fereici's goal, were you expecting it to be a 30 yard screamer?
