Stranded The stupidity of some journalists always amazes me - NotW yesterday had a rumour of Hunt to Boro for £7m - are they the only people in the world who don't know about the £5m clause....

So? It may take £7M to secure the purchase if there were several bids and Sunderland, for instance, bid £6.9M.

The £5M clause only assures that the offer will be put to him, not that a sale at that price is assured.

Forgive me, but a £5M offer assures a sale so long as the player agrees to join the bidding club. If another club bids £5M also then the player has a choice of clubs to join (or stay at the one he's already at). Therefore a £7M bid would be a total waste of £2M which would be better used to try and lure the player with signing on fee / higher wages.

UpNorth Now Rednapp has made a shock move for Hunt - £5m of course.

According to the gospel that is the Daily Mirror (or more likely Hunt's desperate agent).

Just for fun and assuming this takes place presumably we could get Gareth Bale on loan for the rest of the season with an option to buy if we got promoted.
Now that would be very good business-a younger player with loads of ability who I think is much better suited as a left-midfielder rather than as a full-back,much in the way that he was used at Saints.
Apparently Harry isn't too impressed by the defensive part of his game.
Imagine it a footballing left-midfielder,something we haven't seen since Bobby retired from football a couple of years ago.

I was trying to think of left sided players that might be available for a loan spell.

I also came up with Wilshire at Arsenal as a potential option. A bit more of a gamble as he's so young but if Wenger gets a couple of midfielders in in January they might be looking to get Wilshire some games out on loan...

If Hunt goes then Surman or Boyd should be brought in.

Not a bad call WR, signed new contract, as waiting for a higher club I believe, good old B Fry says no one will be leaving.

They all say that, however whether young Barry would be able to hold out if we offered a significant chunk of the £5m which we would receive is debatable.

It's why I said it slightly tongue in cheek, if they lose one of the three and keep the other two they will have done well.

If they dont go up i can see ferguson leaving for better things as well, good potential at Peterborough tho.

I have always felt that Richard Hughes at Pompey is under-used and under-rated.
Is Etherington at West Ham fit?
Man City had some very exciting prospects in their youth side and their left-winger (German or Eastern Bloc?)is not likely to get a look in with Robinho ahead of him.
Scott Sinclair at Chelsea?

I thought of Etherington whilst watching a bit of the Blackpool v Wolves game last night, although to be honest we could do worse than the kid Blackpool have got on loan from West Ham (Reid) going by last nights performance.

I'm guessing West Ham's current money situation will mean that they won't be looking to bring in any major signings, so Etherington may well still be in their plans.

Sinclair would be interesting.

Scott Sinclair at Chelsea? Striker

As for Wiltshire, he's a centre mid, and it would be a massive gamble. I think Wenger would want him to be the main man in a League One side as opposed to the second winger (as Henry or Kebe would be the prefered passing option due to their dribbling skills) in a Championship side. I'm not saying he wouldn't get in the side, there's every possiblity that he would, but I think the players would look to pick out the significantly better winger on the right.

Now Aaron Ramsey, he's a player I'd like to see at the club (on loan, obviously).

If Downing stays at 'boro, what about Adam Johnson?

I would take 5m Turkish Lira for Shunt. Has to be remembered that left sided midfielders are not exactly 2-a-penny. If we get someone to replace him then he has to be able to do the job at the next level. Therefore I would rpefer Etherington - if available.

Wenger certainly see's Wilshire as a central player in the future (he's compared him to those who fit into the Berkamp role) but I think he see's him as starting out in a wide position whilst he learns his trade. He has all the abilities to play out wide and has done for Arsenal even if he's not a natural winger.

He can play out wide and has done for Arsenal, correct, but Wenger wingers are very different to Coppell wingers. I'm not sure if he's fast enough to play out wide in our system, and he isn't at Little's level yet, but I'd be willing to give him a go.

I thought Kebe's favoured side was the left side?

West Ham have announced today that they'll listen to offers for all their players, with one of the aims being to get rid of a few fring players and reduce the size of the squad

If that meant Etherington was available then he'd be an excellent signing
