I can't recall being more excited about any Reading player than Kerry Dixon. Probably a reflection of increasing age. These days I'm more team than player oriented.

Richie Bowman - providing we had a tall keeper any team would struggle to beat a team with 10 Richie Bowmans in as he gave 110% every game and was good in midfield, going forward and defending. Always thought the chant going across the Southbank of "One Richie Bowman" was one of the loudest in the old Elm Park days and the passion he showed on the pitch was relayed in the stands. Feel certain that had he got a chance in the old div 1 he would have been as successful as Siddie is at the moment in the prem!

Adie Williams was my all time favourite Reading player because when i was young i thought it was amazing he played in every shirt in the team - 1 through 11. (before squad numbers). I heard he got arrested recently??!!

More recently I thought Cureton was a legend due to that lob against Brentford and his countless classy finishes.

Nicky Forster.

Carried the team on his back for several years. That goal at Sheffield United in front of the Sky cameras was unforgettable. His single-handed rescue mission against Wigan in the 2nd Div Playoff Semi was equally remarkable.

Adie will always be a Reading Legend and great shame when he went the first time and also when we did not extend his contract second time round when I believe we were a) top or if not second and b) he was our captain. Can't imagine he was after a fortune but then we have a history of letting some of our legends go for amounts that were compartatively small in terms of retaining their services and pushing on eg Kevin Bremner, Richie Bowman, Adie, and more recently Siddie. BTW chatted to Adie recently in Henley and also on several occasions in the past and always a very approachable, friendly, down to earth guy. Hope he gets off his assault charge as never struck me as the type to get into trouble unless first provoked (unlike Leroy) so hopefully not of his making!

Yes, I found it hard to believe when I read the news. I agree with you, I thought it was sad for him that he was moved on just before we flew up the league. He was such a good servant to this club - and I was ecstatic when he retured for his 2nd spell.

If anyone has any news on Adie Williams and his "alleged" assault would be interested to hear from them. Adie was one of the few players whose services it would have been great to retain from the start to the end of his career as he had a great presence on the field every game. Mind you if that was the case would make voting for our greatest player fairly easy as it that had been the case he would win hands down.

Final shirt was number 10 worn against Wrexham I believe, in the match where Tony Witter broke his leg (and played a further half hour!) and there was a late Wrexham winner...by Barry Hunter.

Didn't he break his leg in what the club called a training ground accident, but it was rumoured that he got in a fight and fell down some stairs at Utopia nightclub?

Dylan Kerr (my lord) has always been a favourite, and went up in my books after leading the chanting away at Bristol City when injured.

I liked Super Trev when I first started watching Reading and also Jimmy Quinn (ole ole).
