Reading V Hull in 1991 - The start of Mark McGhee's first season with us.

Dont know why I went, had just come back to England from Cyprus where I had lived since I was 11, and wanted to see 'live' football. Lived (and still do) 30 miles away, and had been to see about 15 other teams in order to try and find 'the one'. We lost 1-0, and for some uknown reason I was hooked!

Reading versus Kettering Town, FA Cup - 24th November 1979. I got Mike Kearney's autograph too. Always wanted to go and watch Reading play.

Some time in the mid sixties. Reading 0 Man City 7 FA Cup replay.I was about 7 or 8 and sat on the wall behind the town end wall at Elm Park thinking we were great and the other lot were just being annoying with all this tedious goal scoring malarky!
Its been pretty much uphill ever since ish.

If any statto has any dates, details and ideally pics from that game it would make an old git chuffeder than a chuffedy thing.

And there was me thinking you were 'higher' because you lived in Cumbria

1970 a midweek game in January home to Bradford City. We won 1 v 0 (I only know this cos I looked it up.)

Taken there by my dad - one of those rites of passage moments. Sat in the stands toward the Tilehurst End my abiding memories are of the stunning green colour of the grass under the Elm Park floodlights, and some bloke sat behind us shouting 'unload him Dennis' every time their winger (may have been Ces Podd) had the ball. I think the Dennis in question was Dennis Butler as he was the left back but it could have been Dennis Allen (I loked that up too!)

First game without parental accompaniment was Torquay at home in 1974. We won four nil.

Riseley Season 68-69. Manager Roy Bentley. Sky blue kit. Socks called stockings and shorts called knickers in the programme...probably. Floodlights not on pylons but roof mounted. Division 3 fixture Reading 4 Stockport County 2. Watched from the Norfolk road seats and vowed to request papa took me to my future spiritual home for my next game..the much missed Southbank. Jester hats, clappy clappy chants and loud stadium announcers belonged stateside.

same season for me probably. From hazy memory, 2-1 at home to Mansfield in 1969, aged 8.

Some time mid 60's I can remember seeing John Sainty, Dougie Webb, Dickie Spiers and Peter Silvester playing and going crazy with joy when Tommy Jenkins signed  First visit to Elm park was a Schoolboy international, England V Ireland. Final score 11:0 to England. Grandad said I could have a sweet when a goal was scored  Needless to say I had a lot of sweets that day :D

My 1st game was a reserve match in September'77.Friend had been trying to drag me along to games, but I had resisted. But he then turned up with a spare ticket. I couldn't say no any more. Reading reserves beat Southampton reserves 4-1 in a midweek game. But what got me interested was seeing a young 17 year old midfield player totally dominate the match. My friend couldn't tell me much about him;only that he hadn't yet played for the1st team.
That Saturday I went along wanting to see this lad play. He did. It was of course Lawrie Sanchez. Reading drew with Wimbledon 2-2. And I think Wally Downes turned out for Wimbledon that day also.

Mine was last game of (I think) 74-75 season vs Mansfield Town, 1-1 I think. It is mentioned in `The Best Player you Never Saw` but I`ve lost my copy , so can`t remember scorers, crowd etc.. Anyway, deadly dull, didn`t start going in earnest till 78-9, first one of that season was Doncaster, 3-0, as mentioned already .

Do reserve games count?

1957 v Southampton at Elm Park. Result 0-0 but experience magical. Dad told me off for supposedly booing and I have never booed since.

Was against Stockport County (prob in the early 90's) @ Elm Park. Was hooked from that day forward I think we lost 3-1 or 3-2 as well. Kevin Francis was playing for Stockport and was awsome that day.

Wednesday October 4th 1967. Reading beat Swindon (including Don Rogers) 2-1. What's a pension anyway?

..................and they all seemed to be scored within the 6 yard box too. Pinging around in it like a pinball machine.

Or is my memory playing tricks?

Your memory SeniorRoyal confirms my first game must have been against Barnsley in late 1969.(Just checked........must have been some other team  )
