That Friday Feeling ......
Most of the Championship season, notably Palace at home

That's the one that stands out for me as one of the very best games ever - that match had everything, with the result in doubt right to the end, and it being settled in the end by a special goal.

Reading 3 - 3 Newcastle at Elm Park in the FA cup, i cannot remember the year but i do remember Linden Jones scoring and then Gilksey's famous last minute equaliser. Also our 2-1 victory against Bolton on i think it was a Friday night under lights in the play off season, Lee Nogan's last minute goal is one i will always remember.

Reading 1 - 1 Ipswich. Top of the table clash, late drama.
Reading 5 - 1 Brighton. Mark McGhee humiliated.
Reading 2 - 0 West Ham
Reading 3 - 1 West Ham. Both of those put Pardew in his place and Kitson was top class.
Reading 6 - 0 West Ham. 6-0 in the Premiership? I thought only the big 4 pulled off results like that.
Bolton 1 - 3 Reading. Bolton at the Reebok were really good back then, great last 10 minutes.
Reading 3 - 2 Boro. Great comeback.
Reading 1 - 1 Man Utd. Brilliant fight showed.
Reading 3 - 1 Liverpool. Will it be forgotten?
Man City 0 - 2 Reading. Lita at his best.
Chelsea 2 - 2 Reading. Ashley Cole and Michael Essien gift us a point.
Reading 2 - 1 Wigan. Epic play-off semi
Reading 4 - 3 Oxford. Embarrassment was so near with us 2nd and them bottom. Step up the Rouge!
Boro 0 - 1 Reading. Hope of survival again, a late winner. It felt great at the time, even if it was later to be in vain.
Reading 3 - 1 Spurs. Great comeback.
Wolves 0 - 3 Reading. Put them in their place.
Brum 1 - 3 Reading. Put them in their place.

That'll do for now, when you actually have to start thinking you know they can't have been that epic.

Anybody who reads this thread and really thinks about it will realise how much they want us to go back up to the Premiership.

Newport County 0 Reading 2 (1985/6)

Not a brilliant game, but what a day, what an achievement - we were even headlines on Beeb radio's Sports report.

Plus a couple of odd ones: -

Reading 4 Exeter 3 (mid 70's) - rehearsal for the Plymouth comeback game
Brentford 2 Reading 2 - Bruce Stuckey scoring direct from corner in the 90somethingth minute.

and obviously

Reading 3 Middlesbrough 2

Top shout. I had never experienced the Tilehurst End going so completely hatstand. A great game against a really good Bolton team, as we were later to find out...

Thaumagurist* So why don't you put down the Bristol Rovers 6-0 defeat. Cureton scored four goals!!!!

That doesn't mean it was a master-class of footballing talent, does it? Unless you think our performance against Shef Wednesday this season was better than Arsenal's in the 4-0 win because we scored more goals than they did. Which you probably do.

Anyway, I wasn't at the Rovers game.

Let it go!

Leeds 2 Reading 3 (All the better for our unlucky defeat there 2 years earlier)

Yes, yes, yes.

Kevin Watson's game - when he came on as sub against Forest and all of a sudden everything clicked - the first signs of what the future might be, but Pardew was gone a couple of games later and the future was postponed for a couple of years.

Exeter City 4 - Ross (2), Jepson (2)
Reading 6 - Quinn (2), Lovell (2), Taylor (2)

Incidentally, this game came almost a year to the day in which this match happened:

Reading 2 - McPherson, Quinn
Exeter City 3 - Hiley (3)

A normal run-of-the-mill defeat most people may think, but Scott Hiley is a right back.

handbags_harris Reading 2 - 3 Exeter City
McPherson Hiley (3)
Quinn

JQ was dismissed in that match for a faultless right hook to a defender's head.

Not really great games but memorable for probalby the 3 best goals I'ver seen by a Reading player

1-1 v Bolton 88-89.Bily Whitehurst, inside the centre circle and too knackered or pissed to run, swings a boot at a Steve Francis clearance (Remeniscent of Alan Poulton's own goal for us at Grimsby only with the full weight of 18 stone of Humberside lardarse behind it). Branfoot declares him a genius then sells him 2 days later.

5-2 v Aldershot in the Freight Rover in about 89 or 90. Steve Moran looked like a decent player for once and Trevor Senior scored a goal from about 35yds, wide out on the North Stand touchline, chipping a keeper who was all of 2ft off his line

3-1 v Huddersfield in about 97. Mihaylov's home debut and Jamie Lambert's best ever goal for Reading. Picked the ball up on the left about 10yds outside our area, ran 70yds, cut inside the full back and sent a screamer past Steve Francis into the top corner from 25yds. Adie Williams also scored a cracker, running at the defence, playing a 1-2 and chipping the keeper from the penalty spot.

4 games against Wolves stand out. The first game after Mcghee's departure, the Archie injury time brace, the 3-0 with Quinn's scissor kick and the 4-2 league cup game were special. His time at Wolves always generated a great atmosphere.
