I still remember my first match ever at the Madejski - 11 september 2001 where we played West Ham in the Worthington cup 3rd round and beat them on penalties.....and Adie Viveash's little celebration at the end. I think the best I have ever witnessed is when we played PNE a few seasons ago now and won 5-1 - Darius H. scoring the fifth goal that was very much the icing on the cake. Also, the Ipswich match where fozzie scored all three goals in an exciting 3 -1 encounter. The worse match ( and the one I have difficulty forgetting) was an away match upto Deepdale on boxing day back in 2004 where they beat us 3-0 but we were trully aweful what with scoring an o.g. too !

Reading 2 Sheff Wed 3 (FA Cup in the days when teams put out their best eleven)

F.A. Cup Third round 1966.
Possibly the last time a 20000 plus crowd at Elm Park? A last minute winner for first division Wednesday, and I recall a brilliant action pic of Pat Terry challenging England keeper Ron Springett featuring in all the Sunday papers.

Apart from the Southampton League Cup tie in 1978

Also the Arsenal cup game in 1972 possibly?

Does anyone remember BOURNEMOUTH AWAY in the 80s i think it was a midweek game and we had already got promoted and the Royals took over the stadium!!!.
It was a great Party atmosphere and the thing i remember about that day was when MICHAEL GILKES took the ball around the keeper and kicked the ball towards the empty net, only for a Reading fan then to run onto the pitch and power blast it into the net!!!!
Everyone was on the pitch celebrating the goal , but the referee then disalowed the goal!!!!
what was the final score? anyone there?

A few that immediately spring to mind.

Our first ever game with Liverpool, losing 4-3 at Anfield.
Beating Liverpool 3-1.
The 3-3 at Blackburn.
Archies 2 late goals in the 2-1 win over McGhee's Wolves.
The 6-0 stuffing of West Ham.
That fcukin play-off final!
The Palace thriller in our promotion season (and this season's game at home to Palace come to think of it).
The Simod Cup Final.
The 2-1 win over Plymouth in our Mcghee title winning season (last minute winner from Quinn).
Our first ever Premier League game v Boro.

I'm sure if I thought about it for longer my top 10 would be a bit different, but the above were all crackers.

We lost 2-1 in the pissing rain. The thing that spoiled that day for me was the Royals fans in the pub pre-match. Nazi salutes and broken windows isn't really something I like to be associated with!

My first game!

Dad (Arsenal fan) took us in the away end.

Went to THAT game vs Pompey on Good Friday tucked away in the corner between the Tilehurst end and the Southbank. Scary game that one.
Down to Bournemouth for the 0-0 on the Saturday and the Aldershot game on the Monday. Happy Days!

Happy memories of the Port Vale away game when we clinched promotion amid snow and a pitch invasion by the Vale fans as they were pounded with bricks and terracing from the Reading fans in the dilapidated away end.

Numerous memories include

Leeds away in the League cup.

Oxford away with their hapless keepers.

Newport away in the record unbeaten run.

Blackburn away was good a couple of seasons back.

Man City away as above with Lita scoring both.

Plenty of others but the memories fading.

Don´t have time to trawl through the whole thread so apologies if they have all been mentioned, but the game against Notts County when Forster scored a great hat trick sticks in mind for some reason, but my favoufite recent games have to be the game at home to Spurs as I was with a mate who had told me the whole way about how ´quality Spurs are', and how we were ´championship' and so on.

The other was the promotion season at home to Sheff Utd, early in the season, they were top? and we were second? but Gunna scored twice, plus all the drama thta goes with a Warnock game, certain pens not given, etc. I can't remeber if there was a red card in that game or if there just shopuld have been. This game really made me realise that we were actually quite good.

For an expat then these threads are truly excellent for reminiscing about the 'good old days', thanks v. much!!

Paddy Kenny should have been sent off for handling the ball outside the area. Although, I think things were evened up a bit when Harper fouled Gillespie but no penalty was awarded.
