Schard's was nowhere to be seen last night. I believe the poor quality of our football and the lack of progress for the forseeable future may have something to do with this unfortunate situation.

I am fed up with this lack of progress, the team and manager are doing a great job and gelling and performing well.

But there still remains a distinct lack of progress forward from this status.

yeah, damn this season thing. We should just be awarded promotion now so we can get on with progressing in the Premier League.

Isn't it easy to knock a man down in retrospect?

And as a general optimist I'd love to jump on the Schards-bashing bandwagon.

But this question oflack of progress - whilst it's proven to be inaccurate as far as getting out of the Championship is concerned - still remains surely!

Let's say we go up - what then?

Who here honestly thinks we can stay up with the same transfer market/wage structure antics?

Ok we might have a fair season but we'll be down in a shot again and then we might not have The King to get us out of it again.

As Schards rightly says we WILL need wholesale changes in attitude if we go up again. Otherwise we'll be a yoyo club at best.

Will Madejski change his tune, increase capacity immediately and increase the wage structure? Will he risk a bit more and plough more money into buying new players once we're up?

We might go up... but I stand by Schards' scepticism when it comes to an inability to see progress... once we're up.

2 world wars, 1 world cup Isn't it easy to knock a man down in retrospect?

It is his failure to admit his original post may be somewhat wide of the mark that is the issue, not what he originally wrote.

Anyway I'm bored of it now......

Reasonable progress is not expecting us to manage to become a midtable Prem team. It is to see us hovering around the fringes of the prem and getting as many seasons there as possible. staying there for a good length of time is several steps in the future.

We'll have to see what our policy is if we get promoted. Who knows how we'll respond.

2wwand1WC

Fair comments, but different to the post that started this.

Like others I certainly feel it's done to death now and whether anyone is or isn't going to change their views matters little when the league table kind of gives it's own message.

I also kind of agree with the suggestion that Schards is probably sniggering happily to himself that his little wind up has worked so well.

2WW1WC - Surely the whole point of Schards' original post was to analyse where we are, to give a number of reasons why we could not possibly progress from there and to prepare us all for a period of dull and uninspiring supporting Reading.

All of what he said has now been shown to be complete bollox. I don't really know why he posted it, other than to show everyone on here that he had the sort of wisdom that could see what he thought would really happen if what he said wasn't put into place (sacking Coppell and Madejski resigning). I maintain that without either of those two in place we would not be where we are today with a very good chance of promotion this season.

As for next season if we go up, well let's wait and see what will happen. The economic meltdown Schards spoke of won't happen, but what will happen is that less people will find the money to go to over-priced Prem games and a number of clubs will suffer financially as a result, especially if more and more people decide that Sky TV is a luxury they can do without. I'm not talking about the really top clubs (and, if we're honest, we must know that we will never be up there with them) but about the teams we can realistically compete with.

Of course, we may not go up (I actually didn't think we would go up this season, but next). That being the case we will still be in a stronger position than most clubs in the CCC - due mainly to Madejski's financial abilities, and Coppell's ability to make a good team out of little more than ordinary players.

Just a minor point, but we haven't achieved anything yet....other than be dumped out of the cup competitions but that's standard practice.

We've avoided relegation....

And we've put ourselves in a better position than all but one other team to get promotion

And we've beaten a lot of teams !!

we are by no means up yet, ffs.

On a lighter note, there IS a financial crisis and let's hope West Ham and Portsmouth stay up, only to collapse next year. (On second thoughts, please let Portsmouth go down asap).

Most of the following will still be in the Premiership next season: Hull, Stoke, WBA, the above desperately skint two, Fulham (who should be safe this year, but will struggle in the medium term, ditto Wigan), also Boro, Sunderland, Newcastle, Bolton, plus two other promoted sides from the Championship. That should give us at least a fair chance of staying up.........

We haven't achieved anything yet?!? We've achieved 54 points so far and scored 57 goals. Also, we've had away wins at Birmingham and Wolverhampton.

..................but only those whose heads reside where the sun never shines would even attempt to suggest that, anything other than highly significant progress has been made since defeat at Ipswich.

PS. I'm sure Wolves fans are delighted that there team is still in the FA Cup.

Weren't you one of those that was calling for Coppell's head not so long ago?

But yeah, I know what you mean about some people being unable to concede a point. I mean, there were people in here who said Sidwell was a greedy bollox for leaving us and how he would never cut it in the Premiership....

I think we can agree that we have not yet achieved mid table championship football

I think we need to get used to mid table championship football at the very best until there is a sea change at this club.

And I've said that Sidwell is currently playing well at Villa (Regardless of his failed move to Chelsea and the unpleasant things he said before leaving this club)

I've also praised Coppell on countless occasions for learning from the mistakes of last season and making AMAZING PROGRESS since the days when many of us feared his time here was coming to an end............................for those who appear too thick to understand, THAT is the point here.

No one gets everything right but very few refuse to admit to getting something so spectactularly wrong as is the case here.
