Don't suppose you have any work for an expert in the mid-seventeenth century, do you?

One thing thats confusing me a bit. If Lita is free in the summer then i thought he is perfectly entitled to talk to any club about his future. Therefore Sheff Utd could quite legally approach him anyway and discuss terms without even contacting the club. Or has this changed?

They'd have wanted him to sign and start playing right now though.

For that they need to pay up.

Today's Times states that Reading accepted Sheffield Utd's offer of £1+ but Lita declined because he couldn't agree personal terms. A different slant altogether. Is Leroy greedy? Which is the truth here?

That is the Sheff Utd version of the story, so nothing new.

Although I think the offer was a bit more than a pound !!

Not so different, because that's what Sheffield Utd are claiming.

What i mean is why go through the process of talking to us when they could have sounded the player out originally on the pretence that they were negotiating for a summer deal. Its not really a secret that Lita wasn't in Coppell's plans so to not discuss terms with the player first seems to be a bit of a waste of time really.

Don't know, although as it seems to have come down to being a bit of a PR exercise by Utd to appease their fans after selling Beattie, so that might explain it.

The deal that Lita wants in the summer might be different to the one he'd want now of course...

Other than that, why not go through the club and do it properly?

Because for me its the player that holds the cards really in this situation . Get him on side and you've a negotiating position with the club. In my opinion (and its only that) if they'd have got Lita onside then you'd probably be talking a lot less than paying 1m if both sheffu and Lita have agreed everything.

You're right though i guess the pr angle was the major one. Sadly for them though its backfired really.

I can't believe this arguement is still going on though it does involve Spacey so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Anyway the EP report today starts as follows

Leroy Lita has turned down the chance of a move to Reading’s Championship promotion rivals Sheffield United.

The Blades last week had a bid in excess of £1million accepted by Reading, who will lose the striker for nothing in the summer as he will be a free agent.

However, as we reported on Monday, Lita intends to stay and play his part at Madejski Stadium as Royals look for a swift return to the top flight.

I thought that only applied to international transfers and that you can't approach Domestic players until the end of May (ish).

It's a practice of Journalism to put stories together in different ways.
All information can be processed and manipulated to agree with a persons' views.
Clearly, Reading Football Club's slant on it is that Lita is loyal.
Whereas Times and Sheff Utd will say he's greedy.
Believe whatever you want! :D

Ah that could well be the case although i'm sure it was quite open that Sidwell was talking to other clubs during his last 6 months here.

Just been sent this by a QPR supporting colleague. IIRC QPR have expressed an interest in signing Lita before.

I did have fun pointing out how the mighty had fallen and that Rangers fans now had to look for their news in the Kilburn Times rather than The Times. To which he responded that it was in The Daily Star too!

Sorry, I'm obviously off the pace on this story. And yes, a pound was an over hopeful bid!

Thaumagurist* No, I don't think that at all. I agreed that if Lita wanted to go then Reading would have accepted the bid. It's just that they didn't accept or decline the bid before talking to Lita. What's so difficult about that?

How do you account for the fact that Sheff U said that they had a 7-figure bid accepted?

It would have been easy for the club to deny it happened, but they haven't.

Occam's razor surely applies.

wow, i cant believe some of the things being said in this post. ok, the guys made some howling mistakes and been a wee bit on the arrogant side in the past but most good strikers are arrogant. but gash or not, he sounds to be slowly maturing and wanting to show the club hes not a lost hope. his ratio at reading has been easily forgotten it seems and as steve states, hes the best finisher we have.
i for one would be sad to see the guy go at least without a decent crack of the whip, hes been third choice since hes been here, and like long, how can a player improve when all the chance he gets is ten minutes at the end to either save a game or just run around once the games burried? lita has shown that when he gets a decent run he scores a plenty.. so why not give him a chance instead of following reading tradition and slating a player as soon as we see him!!
