Personally I think that neither Long nor Lita are much cop and if we go up wouldn't be good enough for the Premiership.
I would like to see another striker brought in now and as discussed many times under many topics not another littl'un.

A lot of Long's goals have been in minutes where he is coming on fresh to play against tiring defences this would have an impact on those figures.

Well if a lot of his minutes on the pitch are the last ten, what do you expect? The poor guy cannot win

Mind you, did you realise that in league games where Long scores we have only lost ONCE?

Won 7 Drawn 2 Lost 1 32 For 15 Against. Average 2.5 points a game.

Here are the figures in minute goals scored

On-Goal Time
01 44 Sheff Utd 3-1 Started
01 51 Wigan 3-2 Started
01 61 Man City 2-0 Started
24 64 BURNLEY 3-1
65 73 DERBY 5-0
76 79 Pompey 4-7
65 83 DERBY 5-0
83 84 Newcastle 2-1 Winning Goal
01 84 Saints 1-1 Started. Won Precious Point
80 86 NORWICH 2-0 And won penalty
70 88 Derby 2-2 Precious Point

So when is it tired-leg time? The last ten minutes? 5 goals. and

Lita and Hunt would make reasonably acceptable subs and back up squad players. Providing we're doing reasonably well, Lita is quite likely to perform in the prem due to big gameitis.

Long in the prem? It's just doesn't bare thinking about.

I'd agree with you. And I'd be shifting Long to make room for him.

Snowball Long started in preference to Hunt against Palace and Ipswich.

That's one way to put it. Not necessarily true though.

Sure looks like one of those "facts" to me.

Long was given the opportunity to become a first choice striker. He failed to take it. As did Lita in the preceding games.
SC is no fool, if he thought Long was a better option than NHunt up front he would have continued to play him from the start. He didn't.

If Steve Coppell isn't convinced that Shane is actually a Premiership player in disguise, what makes you so confident?

There you go again.. Opinion based on nonsense.

Doyle 28 league games of 86 minutes each this season = 17 goals
Hunt 22 league games of 60 minutes each this season = 10 goals

Overall, matched up for time on pitch there is nothing between them, but the
HNA pundits keep arguing that it's easier to score against tired defences,
late on, and guess what? Hunt and Doyle in the first 65 minutes are
exactly matched goals-wise HUNT 10 Doyle 10

BUT REMEMBER

DOYLE HAS PLAYED 28 GAMES = (1 IN 2.8 GAMES)
HUNT HAS PLAYED 22 GAMES = (1 IN 2.2 GAMES)

SO HUNT IS A CLEARLY MORE PROLIFIC STRIKER FOR THE FIRST HOUR

You think Doyle would have scored 10 goals in 22 60-minute games?
Answer NO, he has scored 10 goals in 28 x 65 minute games

He's a good player, but what says he's a better striker than Hunt? The stats say he isn't (if we are talking just goals)

The reason he has more goals is because he's scored seven goals after Hunt has gone off and been replaced by Long!!

Seven Doyle goals from 17 in the last 24 minutes. But Hunt gets taken off most games around the 60-65 minute mark so there's no way he can score!!

Personally i wish we could swap LONG FOR COX!!

Bolton keen on Cox
Megson eyes Swindon raid for striker
Last updated: 24th January 2009

Skysports.com understands Bolton Wanderers are the latest club to have made an offer for 17-goal Swindon striker Simon Cox.

Huddersfield Town last week had a £500,000 bid rejected for the former Reading player, whilst Spurs, Fulham, Sheffield United and Barnsley are all thought to be considering a move for the 21-year-old.

Swindon Town manager Danny Wilson stated this month that while he is not looking to sell Cox, every player has a price. The Swindon board are thought to value the club's top scorer at £1million.

The League One hotshot, meanwhile, has rejected a contract extension at the County Ground.

A spokesperson for Touchline Soccer, who represent Cox, said: "Simon has 18 months remaining on his current deal so there is no urgency to extend his contract. He wants to concentrate on continuing to play well and adding to his impressive goal tally. Let's reassess the situation at the end of the season, and we'll go from there."

If Long plays on Tuesday it will be his 100th Reading appearance. I find that quite astounding.

Will also be Doyle's 150th game for the club.

For those of you who are so keen to slag off members of our team such as Long, without any proper evidence, have a look at the clip of the work done by him to set up the third goal at Wolves. Shown for free on the official site at the moment. Take your blinkers off and watch the header to start the move and the speed of movement by both him and Cisse who is another deemed not good enough by some. Watching games without preconceived views would be a new experience to certain posters.

Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics Part 275.

Snowball Seven Doyle goals from 17 in the last 24 minutes. But Hunt gets taken off most games around the 60-65 minute mark so there's no way he can score!!

Conclusive proof that a higher proportion of chances are created for Doyle after Hunt gets yanked. 7/24*90 = 26 goals for Kev if Noel wasn't playing at all. Lita would surely have at least half a dozen had he played all season, so that's looking like a better option.

Only kidding, natch, but really, statistics aren't like plasticine, to be bent into any shape of argument you choose.

What I'm doing is perfectly reasonable. I am basing my opinions on educated observations. Not just plucking random statistics out of the air to prove what I want to. Anyone with the patience to bother can do that.

Your pretty little numbers may contain some decent figures somewhere, but it's lost amongst the total drivel which makes me want to cry.

and the fact that with eight minutes to go, the first eleven couldn't score against Norwich
on comes Long and within two minutes wins a penalty

Now S Hunt looks "brilliant" because he scores a penalty

Two minutes later Long scores the clinching goal from Henry's cross

or

01 Sub Shane Long nearly created a fourth with a great run and cross down the right, but Stephen Hunt dragged his near post shot wide
02 Long wins penalty, Hunt scores
03 Long wins free kick, Hunt takes, Doyle scores
04 Shane Long did well to find the onrushing Jimmy Kebe with a lovely lay-off, and the Malian was clean through. He got a decent shot away, but it was probably too close to Richard Wright and allowed him to make a decent save.
05 Soon after a fourth goal - and Kebe's first for Reading - very nearly followed with an electrifying burst that resulted in Long sliding through a pass for the galloping Mali winger, who fired his first time shot narrowly wide of the right post.
06 Sub Shane Long forced Basso into a low save, while Kebe overran a one-on-one.
07 Long wins penalty. Hunt scores (second instance)
08 Long scores v Burnley
09 Long scores v Norwich
10 Long scores at Southampton

Not too bad for a super-sub who has started just three games this year
