I agree, but we're left with Convey on the left. Unless Robson-Kanu can come in and earn a place, or we find a gem.

We could always play Kebe in his favoured position....

This is true, and a good point, with Henry staking a claim on the right where he impressed last night, and it was good to see.

He was on for all of 5 mins, and was OK against a knackered Cov defence and put in a couple of decent crosses - he did no more than the minimum I would expect...

And got very easily muscled off the ball when challenged at one point.

Looks like a decent crosser but I suspect a bit too weak for a Championship start at the moment.

"Oh my God! Henry put in a decent cross that was fairly easily cleared by Coventry! I think I've just cum!"

Recently mentioned on the Cardiff BBCRB commentary that a Villa scout is there to see Doyle (though he's not in the squad of course) and has been to see him several times this season.

Nothing too exciting, but +1 and all that.

So, where are West Ham getting £7.5m from? Iceland? Their sponsor?

The possible sale of Bellamy and Parker to Man City and Lucas Neill to Blackburn

They'll be giving Neill away for free, I doubt City will sign Bellamy, and Parker isn't worth £7.5m. If/when they do sell those players, they will use it to pay off debts, pay wages or hold it to give to Sheffield United.

Two things I hate about this thread:

1) This thread has discussed every man and his dog wanting Doyle. Change the thread title?!

2) There was a reason Doyle signed a new deal when it was clear he wanted to leave. It was to secure his services until the END of this season. Then, if we fail to get promoted, we will allow him to leave and pick up a handsome fee due to the extended contract terms.

He isn't going anywhere this month, let alone West Ham.

2) all depends if someone stumps up enough cash for him

Rumour: Doyle's off to Man City

by Sarah Star » 24 Jan 2009 19:04

...well, not really, but Man City are going to bid £10million for him according to the Irish Evening Herald - LOL

City on the double
CITY INTEREST: Kevin Doyle (l) could be joining up with Ireland strike partner Robbie Keane at Manchester City
Saturday January 24 2009

MANCHESTER CITY boss Mark Hughes is set to end Robbie Keane's Liverpool nightmare by bringing the Dubliner to Eastlands, and Kevin Doyle may be following his Republic of Ireland strike partner to the mega-rich Blues.

City are preparing a £20m bid for Keane -- £5m more than what his former club Tottenham Hotspur were preparing to pay for the misfiring striker's services.

And Reading star Doyle - who has made no secret of his desire to return to the Premier League - may also be on his way with City primed to bid in the region of £10m for the Wexford-born player.

City have already signed Wayne Bridge for £11m, Craig Bellamy for £14m and Nigel de Jong for £17m, but boss Hughes, stung by Kaka's refusal to leave AC Milan -- wants to bolster his squad further with more striking options.

Brazilian flop Jo is set to be offloaded by Hughes which will free up spaces in the City attack for the Irish pair.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is reported to have lost faith in Keane, and substituted him in the second half of last Monday's Premier League derby clash with Everton. Doyle, meanwhile, has scored 17 goals for the Royals so far this season.

Robinho
Keane?
Bellamy
Benjani
Vassell
Caicedo
Bojinov
Ched Evans
Jo
Daniel Sturridge

Doesn't make much sense them going after Doyle, and no sense for Doyle (except money). There would be eight players fighting to be fourth-choice striker

Bojinov will be going and Vassell is used as a winger. The article states Jo will be offloaded. Evans isn't ready. At worst, there would be four players fighting for that fourth spot. I think those two transfers would signal the end for Caicedo and a loan for Sturridge.

Still utter BS though.

I would LOVE to get Sturridge on loan until the end of the season. He is quick, creative and is a good finisher. Did anyone see the goal he created for Robinho against Citeh?

If he's setting up own goals I'm not sure we'd want him.

I've not seen much of him, but he seems to drift out wide quite a lot. Possible 6 month loan to be played on the wing? Games are game, and if he'd get squeezed out by Man Citeh's latest bought of panic, media grabbing overspending it's an extremely outside possible.

The whole point behind Doyle's new contract is it guarantee's he stays until the summer, and if we don't go back up, we will not stop him from leaving.

He isn't going anywhere this month.

Not a great time to be signing players on a 6 month loan, but Sturridge does look a fine player and to get him until the end of the season would be good.

Can't see Doyle disappearing though....
