Just to make sure no-one forgets, the closing of this transfer window is not 31st January because this is a Saturday. Closure, I believe, is not until 5pm on Monday 2nd February.

I think that it is fair to say that no-one will offer £5m for shunt on the basis that he is not worth £5m.

He may not be worth that to us but market forces are at work. If another club is prepared to splash the cash for someone of SH's quality to fill a real or perceived gap/weakness, that's their decision. The fact that nobody has yet come out in the open implies that they're not yet that desperate. If someone does come in for him at the last minute, we'll have to mend some fences and may ourselves be forced to pay over the odds for a replacement. I hope it does not come to that because we do not have a history of last-minute expensive deals and I don't think it would be good for us in the long run if we did have to resort to those tactics.

Put in a good energetic performance against Wolves. Had to laugh though because every time he tried to go straight through Foley who sussed him out!

From what he has said it would have to be a team he wants to play for too. Which narrows the possible parties involved down by at least 1/3

Hilarious, I can't believe any of the anti-Hunt militia have thought to mention such a thing before

Anyway, as a protest against Hunt's despicable behaviour I'm of to burn all my Rubettes albums

brendywendy Hes pissing me off.never passes up an opportunity to come out with this shit. Playing worse and worse. The truth is the club cant have been offered 5 million,or hed be gone already as a legal requirement. The hobbit should get back in his hole and concentrate on the only thing that will affect a move-playing football, properly. I really think its worth getting shot,he sounds so gay, like a little brat

Seems to me he is getting desperate for a move and yes I think he is 'a bit thick'. He should think beforehe opens his mouth or he could end up losing the support of our fans and not getting a move. Why rock the boat so much.

SC must wonder why he bloody bothers sometimes. And you can't blame an agent if SHunt himself has spoken to the press. But you probably CAN blame his agent for telling him that there's been some interest in him - SHunt has taken this to mean that they want him, rather than just enquiring the price and is he available. If I were him I'd put up and shut up. If someone wants him, let his play do the talking, not his mouth. And, unfortunately, I haven't seen anything these last couple of months that suggests to me he's worth anywhere near £5 million. You'd have thought he'd have learned from the likes of Kitson and Sonko and Shorey that going to a Prem club for more money doesn't necessarily equate regular play and iconic status amongst their new fans. Sometimes, it's better the devil you know. He's on good money here, can take the kudos of getting us back up to the Prem and if someone comes in for him next season, good luck to him and them.

I'd say part of SHunt's problem is he isn't too bright and is therefore easily got at by his agent and or the media.

I wonder if Hunt and his agent are using these inflamatory comments to encourage the club to consider accepting an offer below that of the £5m to trigger the release clause....

Which is an accusation that you could level at approximately 95% of footballers - allegedly! I mean, if they had a brain, they would have a real job

Being clever means you'd work as an electrican / plumber for £70k / year, or an MD at £150k / year when you could be earning £15k - £30k / week as a footballer!???

Bored now.

Stephen Hunt's not that good. Works hard, takes lots of wrong options.

Time to get rid of him.

Only shame is the effect it might have on his brother.

If this is the case, then how would the agent know as Reading have not given the interested parties permission to speak to Hunt or his agent. Unless you're thinking it's all a tapping up?

No Spacey - I was thinking the agent has contacted the club and asked if there's been any interest and they've said "we've had a couple of enquiries from Club A and Club B but nothing more" - Agent - as he's in the middle of a credit crunch and is rubbing his hands at the prospect of a % of a £5 million pound fee or whatever they get - then tell SHunt who gets the wrong idea and thinks they're actually "after" him. Or something.

Hoop Blah Well that's a clearer denial from Coppell and pretty much as expected, he's calling a bid an official written offer, which is fair enough.

I'm sure in the world of the player and agent a firm enquiry is just as interesting though.

I'm sure that Coppell's quotes last week were a little more along the lines of 'no enquiry' than 'no bid' but it's only to be expected and he's only doing it to keep the players on their toes I guess.

If you read the words of SSC carefully you will get the truth.
Now he says - no firm bid.
Before he says - I've not had a single enquiry about S Hunt.
Truth is Nicky Hammond gets all the calls, not SSC.
RFC doesn't want to do business, and I can understand SHunt getting annoyed, but Wigan have to bid £5M up front to get to talk to him - otherwise no deal.
Wigan will not talk to SSC during this process - Hammond deals with all the selling other than the "do you want to keep him or not Steve" conversation.
Hammond doesn't speak to the press during transfer windows (much) and thus RFC can maintain a total veil of secrecy over everything.

I think you're probably spot on, and that's what has got SHunt riled if he knows there has been contact but is too thick to understand what is being said.

I think it has now got to the point where if someone was going to pay the £5m they would have already done it. Wigan asked if there was any bid the club would accept under £5m and we said no.

In the current climate, i very much doubt that anyone is going to pay this £5m and the £30k hunt would want a week.

It is also getting to the point where sir steve will be taking the battery out of his phone again, like he did at the end of the last transfer window
