Given to Man City- Sad day for football

by FiNeRaIn » 30 Jan 2009 17:00

One of the longest serving prem players at any club, model professional, world class and great attitude. Loved by the neutrals and also by the geordie fans.
Looks like he'll go to man city for cash in the end, sad ending to a good story IMO. One of the last respected prem players won over by the £ signs.

The money has bought him for City rather than Sours or whoever but that's not the reason he left

Steve Harper signing a new contract makes more sence now. This is a massive loss for Newcastle though.

Harper is also a very good keeper. Don't think it's that big a deal

Bloke skipping out of failing club to club with money and more likelihood of success in the last few years of his career - and get paid more.

Not the first club to throw money around and won't be the last - this particular move is not a sad day for football, it's an obvious move for one bloke's career.

We're talking about shay given here, not someone like nicholas anelka. He signed for Newcaslte in 1997, what were you doing back then?
He was been a top performer in the prem for years and been linked to barcelona, man utd and real madrid all in that time and remained loyal to newcastle. Now he is likely to end up at man city, who lets face it, won't come close to winning something any time soon. What a shocker of an ending.

Hes remained loyal because hes probably been continually promised Newcastle were going to challange for honours. They havent.
Man City arent either, but they have far more chance in the last few years of his career than Newcastle. Really cant blame him.
Been very loyal but hes got ambitions of winning something, not a bad ambition to have! Cant see too many Newcastle fans being bitter about him going either, gutted yes, but they're also aware they cant challange for honours

You only get one life, one career, and a football career is one of the shortest you can get. I dont like selfish and greedy players but eventually you do have to try and make the most of your oppourtunities

Given has said he needs a new challenge. Yes he's going to Man City, but i think it's also his last chance to win something. Oh and of course the cash

Good luck to him he's a great keeper I'm amazed he has stayed there as long as he has.

Personally I doubt that he has been earning much at Newcastle for all these years. Actually, perhaps he is a player that stayed for money!!

Good luck to him, he's going to a bigger cash cow. He's suffered enough misery at Newcastle so time for another relegation dogfight at another club for possibly more money. :D

I work with a couple of Geordies...

They're both happy for him. Think it's about time he got a good chance for football to give something back to him. Namely, a bundle of cash.
