beno what was our style that season i only went to a few games.. but wish i went to more. did we play consistently good football or was there mostly scrappy games like they are these days? how would a team playing 5-3-2 passing style get on these days, no one seems to play 5-3-2 anymore. at one time it was very popular. was that a mcghee formation i thought he was a 4-4-2 man like coppell? was it jim and mick who started it? did we have a sweeper and an attacking midfielder out of the 3 DC and MC? interested to hear from anyone who saw the team regularly that season!

Very briefly, just do not give the ball away, lots of short free kicks and corners, if the cross looks iffy come back out and start again, and a central defender in Wdowcyzk who could genuinely bring the ball out of defence.
McGhee used to change formations but it was Jim and Mick who settled on 3-5-2. When they signed Nogan, Quinn dropped himself presumably because the more mobile Nogan was better able to exploit the space created by our clever interpassing.

He was way out of his depth! Bernal for me, everytime (proper international player) unlike Murty and his Scottish attempts!

Murty was by far the better fullback, both attacking and defending. The only thing Bernal had over Murty was he was stronger and better in the air and that made him a useful cover at centre back.

As a full back in either system or team Murty wins hands down....and by some way too.

The joys of watching Gilkes run it off the end of the pitch or Kebe skin 4 players and then fall over his own legs.

Waht a sh*t post. Who is this muppet? Simon Osborn at left back instead of the injured Dylan Kerr? What a load of bollocks. Where did Gilkesy play then? Sweeper?

Ian Royal Adie Viveash played in 94/95? My Arse did he.

I'm afraid he did, on loan from the Swine. Nutmegged Shaka with a delicately sliced own goal in a far from tropical monsoon at Turf Moor the day Nogan got his first goal for us. The coldest I have ever been in my life that day, and I've been inside the Arctic Circle

Bloody hell!

In my defence I only saw the last game of the season and I knew he wasn't our player and that he signed for us several seasons later.

Where to start with the LOLs?
LOL at shoe horning Murty into the current team, when he's currently at Charlton and is unlikely to play for us again, except maybe out of sympathy.
LOL at Murty as 'Best Right Back the Club has had'
LOL at MacPherson winning any one on one comparison with any of today's midfielders.
LOL at Matejovsky being placed in midfield when he wasnt even compared to the 1995 team
LOL at the praise thrown at Ingimarsson
and
Just a general LOL.
The article is so biased on personal preference it comes across as a bit dumb.

I did like Shaka - 20 clean sheets, Marcus - Throws his jersey in the crowd. Close call that one.

What a ridiculous statement.

We went down by 1 point, or 3 goals. Surely if you were to pick any player and remove their individual errors we would have stayed up. Did Doyle miss a chance in a game we lost by 1 goal? Better blame him for relegation then.

Totally agree on all of that.
The idea that Marek who has hardly ever played for our club should be compared with a midfielder in Super Si who was even better than Sidwell beggars belief.
In picking the best of both ereas I would probably put play anywhere Gooding at right-back in preference to Hopkins,Bernal,Murty or Rosenior.
If people today think that Hunt has energy Micky had more and could tackle and pass-a player who IMHO would have excelled in these days of high octane football.
Dariusz was simply the best and had everything ,unfortunately that included dodgy knees which limited his time with us.

Agreed on Gooding, the guy used to get 8/10 every game in the evening post with 'another industrious performance' ' covered every blade of the pitch' etc!!

I always thought Tom Jones was a good right back, he was a good passer and seemed a very intelligent player, did he suffer with injuries coz i dont remember him playing a lot??
