I really hated Meaker. Sumed up all that was wrong at the time, we'd lost great players in Shaka, Osborne, Taylor and Williams had we had crap like this guy coming in.

Bodin was terrible.

Tommy Wright? He was a legend....

Trevor Morley - biggest cheat ever to play for Reading and the only Reading player to have made me embarassed to support the boys.

Platypuss
Baines
Platypuss Potentially more interesting is the non-RFC villains such as Ron Futcher.

The Cube has the right idea:

Futcher-Swindlehurst-Carpenter-Martinez are the ones that stick in my mind.

Surprised no mention of Kelly Haag too.

Andy Bernal is the only technical villain I can think of.

Any other Royals with criminal convictions?

(Pardew and McGhee both moved the club forward. I'd say they're heroes rather than villains. Now Burns. Where do you start?)

Did think of big Billy.

Packie Bonner and Ian Porterfield were both done for drink driving I think. Oh, and Kits of course.

We had some really bad players around 1971/72 season - not even division 4 standard - finished 16th that season.

Malcolm Swain? Martin James? Some really ropey 2nd keeper as well when Death was injured.

Dave Kitson? Graeme Stack- or was he found not guilty?
Oh, and Meaker of course deserves a book of his own.

I really liked Morley. And Meaker.

Maybe I just tend to have a soft spot for the villified. Unless they are really shoite. Like Brayson, or Shepperd.

why Keith Jones?

I might nominate Bas Savage, due to him not being a footballer but still playing football for a living.
