Hunt signs to 2012, details being released now from RFC.

Surely deserves its own thread??

Must be a similar clause in there somewhere as with Doyle. That is some turn around if not.

Great news.

Coppell knows full well he can be the difference between us going up or not. Not lately, but we've seen it both with past performance as well as stats that dont lie.

He will leave in the summer if we dont go up i think, but with him committed now I think there far less chance of that happening. win win for RFC. Unless he breaks his legs in training today. :|

RFC almost certainly know that no one will pay £5m for Hunt in the summer, however by adding an extra year on it ties him to RFC for 3 more seasons, almost certain to still be a release clause, possibly a little less, £2.5 sounds too little, but there will have been a trade off.

Release clause to the highest bidder should we go up and get relegated, rather than £5m, with £5m for the summer and all next season if we get promoted. Wages will have been improved a bit for Prem football, though it is feasable that he could get 3 seasons of prem wages with RFC.

Thats great news.

The spirit in the camp must be soaring right now. Right across our All Irish front line. Hopefully that will give us the impetus we need to finish the job.

Hunt knows full well that RFC is the best stage for him to play. He would have been wasting his time at Spurs or Everton and Wigan is now a disaster waiting to happen.

Very few Reading players go on to better things after leaving this great club. As other posters on here have said, the team at Reading is greater than the sum of all its parts. Reading, under Coppell has always been about the team. Never about individuals. It's always apparant when Reading players leave and can never quite add anything to other teams.

Hunt has made the right decision to stay with the greatest club in Berkshire.

Sounds like you were in on the negotiations!

I'd say that this might make people eat their words but no doubt their response would be that this is merely a tactic to drive his price when he leaves, just like Doyle did in the transfer window

I wonder if the new contracts are based on SSC saying he will be staying if we go up.

IMHO a lot of footballers will look at RFC and see a good, settled, well run club that can match their peers' wage structure. Certainly the players we have seem to want to stay.

Well done Sir John, Sir Steve and Viscount Hammond.

Release clause down, wages up I should imagine. A pragmatic deal that hopefully will work best for everyone. Let's go get that promotion, boys...

Hunt has not been at his best for a while, too much transfer talk... Hopefully we will see a return to form against Preston.

Great.

Hopefully this is just a tactic to drive up his price when he leaves in the summer, as was the case with Doyle and the transfer window just passed.

Hunt signs an extended contract to 2012 and the board has lots of negative threads on Hunt and Doyle leaving in the summer.

Surely you believe RFC are good enough to be in the premier next season.

Should RFC fail to get promoted, then Hunt and Doyle may well leave in the summer, though Doyle had better start scoring a few more to raise interest.

All in all I think Hammond and Coppell played this one just right, Hunt could get 3 seasons in the prem with this contract at Reading, on good wages i would guess, taking him to 31, and the twilight of his career.

Looking forward to the all new Stephen Hunt, starting with Saturday against Preston.

I remember reading somewhere (not saying it's 100% true because just saying what i read) that Reading had offered S Hunt 'Premiership wages' for him to stay at the club instead of go to Wigan. When there was interest from them, we basically matched their offer for him to stay. Now what I'm wondering is (if it's true of course) if this offer remained on the table and now Hunt hasn't managed to get his move, he's signed up on even more money with *probably* the same if not better release clauses in it.

Which if true proves nothing regards to 'loyalty'.

Absolutely delighted with this. So many people like to slag our team and players off, but for me it is great that the bets players at the club are willing to commit to ensuring the aims of the club come true. It also shows there must be harmony at the club considering all the recent tittle tattle that has been coming out. Well done to all involved - and well done to one of our best ever players for being man-enough to admitting when he was wrong...
