PieEater I don't understand how these clauses in contract perpetuate.

If it was in Harpers original contract, surely it would only have been valid for the duration of that contract. Once he signed a new one then the clause would go. The only exception would be if he kept extending the original contract on better terms, in which case someone screwed up.

Presumably there are two contracts in a transfer. One for the player and one between the selling club and the buying club (which contains clauses such as this one). And I guess this lasts as long as the player remains with the buying club.

At least someone has some common sense.

I can't believe someone actually thinks that a players contract would contain terms relating to the transfer agreement between the clubs.

What's the problem. It's really simple.

There are three scenarios.
A. Harper can do a job for us until his value declines to a level we are happy with paying to Arsenal. He negotiates terms and stays here. Once he cannot do a job for us his value will decline.
B. Harper is unhappy with the terms here so leaves Reading at the end of his contract on a free, so we get no fee
c. He gets crocked and his career ends

Under c there is an insurance payout - would Arsenal claim 40% of that ?

Would it matter Insurance would have to pay the costs to replace like with like, that would include any sell on cash.

You'd think so.

Lose a player to injury and only get 60% compensation for it ?

Except Coppell will find equally as good a replacement at 5%! (if he hasn't already)

Note that a player exchange would present an interesting workaround.

Harper didn't go?

So Southgate did get his hands on our 07/08 season review.

Every time I look, there's another post on this thread. What's perpetuating it?
