Hoop Blah
Snowball 1-0 occurs 09.71% of games
0-1 occurs 08.50% of games
0-0 occurs 10.90% of games
1-1 occurs 09.31% of games

So a team wins 1-0 home or away 18.2% of the time, virtually one game in 5

Games finish 1-0 or 0-0 a staggering 29% of the time, so much for high-scoring huh?

Out of interest Snowball what set of games does this cover?

RFC games? Championship games? Football League games? All English league games?

I would've agreed with SOB that you generally have to score more than 1 goal to win a game. What't the stat for that?

In how many games do teams keep a clean sheet?

I went to a betting site that gave the stats for various scores

1-0, 2-0, 3-0, and 0-0 make up 45% of all games

then there's 4-0. 5-0, 6-0

so clean sheets must be in about 47% of games (one of the sides!)

So does that mean that you DO usually need to score more than 1 goal to win a game then?

Bearing in mind that those games where a team wins a game 2 or 3 nil the opposition quite often give up and the second goal is often the one that seals the win and kills off the game I'd say it's a pretty safe opinion that you do need to score more than 1 to win a game even if it's not statistically accurate.

Thanks for proving my point then. In at least half the games played you need to score more than 1 to win

Why didnt you use the Wolves example instead of Birmingham by the way? They have had to score more than 1 goal to win all but 9 of their games

For us its 16 games where 1 goal would have been enough to win, leaving 15 where we needed more

For Cardiff its something like 10 where 1 goal would be enough and 23 were they needed more

RoyalBlue Repeating the argument with examples doesn't make it any less stupid!

And our strikers aren't just paid to score goals, otherwise Doyle would have been out of the team for a lot of last season.

Last season was a very poor one by Doyle's standards. It was easily his worst at RFC and I would agree that he was lucky to keep his place.

If memory serves me correctly, he scored a derisory 7 league goals......................which is one less than Lita's 8 in what most would consider his best ever season at RFC.

Can you see where I'm going with this :|

Before we even get to things like assists, that might save a striker having a poor spell in front of goal (and is something that Leroy is rarely guilty of :| ) Lita's best season is little better than Doyles worst.

Will you be able to contain yourself if Leroy gets 7 goals this season...............lets face it, if he gets one before the end of the month we won't here the last of it, and, should Long manage 2 from the bench in the same period, Leroy's legions will be out in force to tell us why he's STILL so much better than Shane......................pathetic doesn't begin to cover it.

If this, if that, Woodcote. Didn't you use 'if Leroy had had the chances in front of goal that Doyle has he wouldn't have scored as many'. Or some other crap like that.

I think that if Lita starts the next 4 games and doesn't score, and Long comes on a couple of times and scores, the vast majority on here will hold their hands up and say 'well done Shane'. Don't bet on it happening though.

This could be your eureka moment!

Long has already come on a couple of times and scored.....................feel free to find that "well done Shane" thread and, should by some miracle you find one for any of his goals this season, compare it to the one that followed Lita's goal against Watford.

I was of course referring to our next few games. I'm sure if Lita had scored twice in 24 (or thereabouts) sub appearances this season he would be getting equal stick.

I've not seen that much of James Henry but i've seen three goals:

For Bournnemouth away to Hartlepool

For Reading at Stoke, and

For Millwall at home to Swindon

..the like of which I would wager Shane Long will never score in his entire career. I don't understand why Long is always in the 16 and Henry rarely is and has now been shipped off for another loan period. Henry has pace and a tremendous shot, both great attributes of an impact sub.

Agreed Schards, Henry is a much better footballer than Long imho. Good touch on the ball, equal pace to Long, despite being much taller, a decent cross, a fantastic shot.

And if Wiki is correct, he now has 9 goals in 27 career appearances, which is infinitely better than Long's record, despite playing as a winger, and despite some of those appearances being from the bench.

I think you should post a list of every fixture he's played alongside a list of every fixture Long has played and make liberal use of capitals and bold type to reiterate the point.

That's not necessarily true, you can if they support your theory, but can be cheerfully ignored if not.

Any logic behind that or is it just a wild stab at things?

FTR I can't recall James Henry ever throwing a Reading shirt on the floor in a show of petulance.

No logic, just my opinion after speaking to people in the know. To be fair it must be fairly obvious by now he has an attitude problem as he clearly has the ability to play for us, so there has got to be another reason.

In my limited experience of watching Henry play, I've certainly never seen anything of an "attitude" about him. Lita and Long however, allow their "attitude" off the pitch to also show on or around the pitch at times. HTH.
