I've just jizzed a massive LOL all over my screen at this thread.

Inevitable that the Brazilian flair of Swansea would come unstuck immediately given this nonsense.

Huntley & Palmer
Alan Partridge Ahh so because they lost a game away from home which had Reading not had the worst refereeing decision in the history of the game they would have as well this thread is now null and void. I already sense another dull and uninspiring style thread where it gets bumped after every weeks win/loss by the Swans.

As one poster (think it was Sun Tzu) correctly pointed out they are still a championship side and don't get it right all the time. The philiosophy stays the same and that was the theme of the thread in the first place.

A philosophy that sees them still outside the playoff spots whilst we sit in 3rd, a point behind 2nd with a game in hand and 4 points behind 1st with two games in hand. Who cares if they play the best football in the world, I don't know a Swansea fan that wouldn't trade that for the position we are in. I wish we could play like Swansea

It's their first season at this level for donkey's years and although the general standard is poor the competition is fierce, it's not easy. As I highlighted earlier I believe Coppell's squad is better suited (as you'd expect it to be from a recent ex Prem side) at challenging at the very top of the division, Swansea's isn't. However the way they use their resources and play the football that they do is highly impressive. There won't be any tears shed from swans fans if they don't make the playoffs or don't go up,it's not essential for them this season, but they are still a good outside bet and their style of play has at times lit up a very ordinary division.

Vision I know you could say it about most sides including ours but if you took Jason Scotland out of the Swansea side and for example put him in Doncaster Rovers side I wonder whether it would be Sean O'Driscoll rather than Martinez that everyone would be raving about.

To be fair, Doncaster have looked a pretty good side this season as well....right up to the point they get in the oppositions box and don't have enough cutting edge to finish off their good play.

Scoring goals is supposedly the hardest part of the game so it's no suprise that Donny have struggled to pick up a consistent scorer in the Championship so far. Putting one ready made for the way they play into their team would obviously make them stronger, I don't think that should belittle the job that Swansea are doing though.

I'm not belittling Swansea really just pointing out that in terms of style Doncaster play in the same way yet no-one is lauding O'Driscoll in the same manner. Scotland scored just 3 goals up to November and the issue you raise with Donny is exactly the issue that Swansea had early on as well.. People talk about us not having a plan b if teams get to grips with our way of playing and it will be interesting to note how Swansea adapt now that they're garnering so many plaudits and a lot of attention.

Vision Fair points but taking all the hyperbole about Swansea aside, West Brom played in pretty much the same way last season and as things stand its the more combative Hull side and the up and at 'em Stoke that are doing better (albeit marginally).

Didn't one of the posts in the thread give two good reasons for why?

Dunno. I was replying directly to an assumption that because Swansea play a passing game it will be more suitable to the Premiership. Merely pointing out that easily the best passing side in the championship last season are bottom of the Prem as things stand so style of football isn't necessarily an indicator of success at a higher level.

Extend that to Arsenal who clearly have the best passing side in the Prem, but haven't won a title for years.
That's because Man Utd and Chelsea have a much more effective way of playing. Comparisons between our style and United's are pretty good. Although obviously they are light years ahead in terms of quality in which they implement the style.

Comparisons to our style 3 seasons ago with Uniteds are pretty good, now they're quite wide of the mark!

At the moment, we're like a cut-price Villa.

Oh we are, we really, really are.

Wingers who stay wide yet work hard.
A midfield that is essentially defensive in nature, looking to get the ball wide wherever possible
Very good at set pieces
One striker who runs the channels and is strong and fast
A big lump of a striker who thinks he's better than he is

I'll dig out a Guardian chalkboard of one of Villa's recent games, showing where their passes were made and its almost exclusively down the wings.

Who's our 'big lump of a striker' then? None of Doyle, Lita, or Hunt breaks 6'.

Oh come now, in the rush to try and make a contrary post, surely you can see its Lita? Would 'lump' have been enough or would you merely have searched a bit harder?

But then again, you got your post in, so I congratulate you on that. Well done.

Our style in the last 3 years hasn't really changed, our execution of it has become less good and other teams have developed counter tactics.

What a load of bollocks. I expected better from you papereyes. Lita is hardly a 'lump' in any footballing sense of the word.

Still, if you want to go off on one because someone doesn't agree with your opinion, feel free. No skin off my nose.

I can sort of see where your coming from but cut price? I'd say it's more an Aldi price.

Quite who are our Ashley Young and Gabriel Agbonlahor I don't want to guess

Hoop Blah The point is that Swansea go about trying to win games in style that many find more appealing than ours. If they can continue the consistency they've shown for the last month or so for the rest of the season I think they'll be in with a great shout of making and winning the play offs.

They will have as good a shout as anyone else in the playoffs. I couldn't give two oxf*rd about our style of football if it gets us promoted, I'm sure Swansea fans would say the same

Exactly. What we do, we do well. So why change it?
