On the positive side

We haven't dropped out of the Promotion chasing pack!

We are only a point away from Brum and a game in hand!

We didn’t expect to be here at this stage (well I didn't any way)

Give it until next Friday when people can begin to see the positive side of this dire performance.

5 off top now. The good news is Cardiff won't go above us if they win their two in hand on us. Quite.

Wolves and Brum are on a slibe, but not much worse a one than ours. If we can turn ours around so can they. Oh, and they've been scoring more than us.

If we can start scoring again we're fine and away. But we look devoid of ideas. Our play is formulaic and without inspiration. Our crosses are like their from automatons, just pumped into the box, no real attempt to pick a specific person out. No real imaginative runs and the communication is disappearing.

We could easily go another 4 or 5 without scoring. It wouldn't be a surprise. Luckily Forest are up next. A team in a poor position, I'm not sure what their form is like, but we should be capable of putting a few past them. Although of course, they're guaranteed to flood midfield with 5 and try to stifle us.

Well its up to us to overcome that...if we are a club with true premiership credentials...shouldn't be a problem really....

Ian Wolves are a full half-point per game worse than us over the last six games and big deal that they are scoring goals. Over the last six games they have a GD of MINUS 1 and we have a GD of PLUS one.

So over the six games we have gained three points on them and a GD of two. I call that MUCH worse than us. If we both continued on the same form we would be +18/19 and they would be +10 so we would finish 3-4 points clear of them

13 6 2 2 2 4 4 5 04 +1 8 1.33 Reading
17 6 1 2 3 0 2 9 10 -1 5 0.83 Wolverhampton Wndrs

Forest are 21st on current form

And Birmingham? Not like you to be selective in the points you choose to answer.

Birmingham were playing last night so the stats were out. I answered to the word "THEY" in "Wolves and Brum are on a sliDe, but not much worse a one than ours." which is patently incorrect.

Birmingham, now a mere two points in front of us, played two games more... now have a fractionally better 6-game form mark than Reading, a whacking, monster .17 per game. If that was to continue to the end of the season they would accrue 18 points and end up on 79 points and we'd be one point behind.

9 Birmingham City 6 2 3 1 3 2 5 3 +2 9 1.50

The reason they temporarily look better is because last night's draw against ten men replaced their home defeat againsy Blackpool. When we win 3 or 4 4 of our next 4 games, we'll talk again.

Funny how the bookies still make us favourites at 6/4 and Birmingham are between 4/1 and 5/1

They make us favourites as at the moment it is frankly there for the taking for us - if we can get out of this poor run of form.

Our overall form is better than both Birmingham and Wolves for:

January to date
December to date
November to date
October to date
September to date

We've been playing catch-up since our slighty sticky start (lost 3 of first 8)
but we are second on points per game for the season.

Results Since January 1st

13 6 2 2 2 4 4 05 04 +1 08 1.33 Reading
14 8 2 4 2 3 3 06 06 +0 10 1.25 Birmingham City
21 8 1 3 4 0 2 12 15 -3 06 0.75 Wolverhampton Wndrs

Results Since December 1st

03 13 7 4 2 7 4 17 8 +9 25 1.92 Reading
11 14 5 5 4 6 5 12 12 0 20 1.43 Birmingham City
17 14 4 5 5 3 3 21 19 +2 17 1.21 Wolverhampton Wndrs

Results Since November 1st

Results Since October 1st

01 23 12 6 5 10 6 35 18 +17 42 1.83 Reading
03 25 12 6 7 5 3 43 35 +8 42 1.68 Wolverhampton Wndrs
04 25 11 8 6 8 7 28 23 +5 41 1.64 Birmingham City

Results Since September 1st

Of the 14 teams we now have to play for the second time we have already beaten 11 of them, drawn with 1 and lost to just 2

On season's form to date the current top three

46 1.88 86.48 Wolves
46 1.84 84.64 Reading
46 1.79 82.34 Birmingham

But of course Birmingham could beat Wolves and Reading then that would be

46 1.88 84.60 Wolves
46 1.79 84.56 Birmingham
46 1.84 82.80 Reading

If Birmingham and Wolves draw and other form remains the same, going into the last game:

45 1.88 84.6 Wolves
45 1.84 82.8 Reading
45 1.79 80.6 Birmingham

The way Wolves are playing since December 1st they will need a massive turn-round in form to maintain that 1.88 point average. There's a strong chance we could go into that last game needing to win it, but I'd rather reserve judgement until after the next four games. I think we will much clearer then

17th 14 4 5 5 3 3 21 19 +2 17 1.21 Wolverhampton Wndrs

Yup "looks good"

However, back in the "doing the pools" days there used to be an adage that when a club had already won away (eg Reading at Sheffield) they rarely managed to win at home as expected.

Back in the real world the facts are we're playing crap and not scoring, losing confidence all the time.

That's as positive I can get at the moment.

We need a goal.

Its up to us now
Another draw for Brum leaving us with 2 games in hand over both of them and just 2 pts away from getting back that second spot

Its up to the lads now if they want to get their heads back around the fact that if they play like they did at Brizzle away for the rest of the season then we'll be back in the Prem
