Record Breaking Royals...When are we going to score again?

by readingbedding » 01 Mar 2009 11:37

Is this it now for RFC?
Has all hope of a goal this season, or ever vanished?
What can be done about it?
Can we go up without scoring another goal this season?
And when we do go up, surely we are DOOMED TO FAIL if we don't score a goal in the Premiership?

Finally, what's the longest time in this League a team has gone without scoring a goal?
Will Mr Downs have to add another chapter in his 'Biscuits & Royals' hardback book?

"As soon as the 2nd half started we weren't as fluent"

"Forest clogged us up"

WTF is the point in having a manager that is so plainly uninspiring at halftime and STILL can't put out a side that can play against a 451 formation?

It's been so long since we scored a goal that the last time we found the net they played the 1812 Overture over the tannoy as celebration music.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say that we'll score a goal soon.

Was going to start a thread: 'Goal of the Month?' - Now revised this plan with slight change: 'A goal in the month....?'

We were even going to rearrange the infamous "you must be sh*t" song to "You must be sh*t, we've scored a goal" if the onion had finally gone in the sack.

For all you optimists out there (hello Dave and Steve, anyone with you?) the last time we went six games without scoring, we promptly scored 4 goals in our next match. Sadly we aren't playing Derby next.

11/04/1925 League D3(s) W A 1 0 Brighton & Hove Albion
13/04/1925 League D3(s) L A 0 3 Southend United
14/04/1925 League D3(s) L A 0 1 Bristol Rovers
18/04/1925 League D3(s) d H 0 0 Plymouth Argyle
20/04/1925 League D3(s) L A 0 2 Plymouth Argyle
25/04/1925 League D3(s) L A 0 3 Bristol City
30/04/1925 League D3(s) L A 0 1 Swansea City
02/05/1925 League D3(s) W H 4 1 Bristol Rovers

For those of you interested in car crashes, the longest non-scoring run I can find is 6 matches, (plus however long it was from the goal we scored v Brighton to the 1st v Bristol R), back in 1924/25.

This was equalled by the 6 games immediately preceeding the Derby away win last year. Bikey scored in the 79th min v Birmingham on 22nd March, and we then had to wait until James Harper opened the scoring at Derby, 15 mins into the last game of the season. So that would be 566 minutes.

Leroy Lita scored after 89 mins v Watford thia season, so to beat the 566 mins, we need to be goal-less after 26 minutes of tonight's game. (It doesn't really count as the Neil Collins OG will show in the record books that RFC DID score in thisa little run).

Wish someone could come up with the goal-times for 1925!!

Oh, and just to really make your day - we have never won a competitive match at Sheffield Wednesday, and obviously have never done a double over them.

Happy days!

Goalless is so February 2009. We'll get two tonight, then the floodgates will open for the rest of the season.

It's a shame Robin Friday isn't playing anymore. Friday v Wednesday on Tuesday. Meant to be.

As far as I'm concerned, Collins's goal counts. Start the drought stats from there.

Being entirely selfish, I'll be quite narked if we score tonight. This has gone beyond promotional risk and goal drought and this snowball statistical and viral insanity. It's now personal.

In my recent viewing history, we last scored when I was still queuing to get in at the Wolves game, so assuming a missed own goal doesn't count, I've now spent something like £200 on tickets for myself, friends and family for the Wolves, Preston, Bristol City and Forest games for no notable output. Frankly, I want to see the next RFC goal. I've paid for it, and I 'kin well deserve it. Trades Description. Moral imperative, call it what you like. I assume that others are owed even more.

Have you considered that this all started when nobbers started banging on about Steve Death's record? Since then we haven't looked like scoring. Death's ghost haunts our strikers, and hobnob did it.

Probably.
