I take it this won't be a 'sitting down' area?

I'm sure Dirk will be able to tell you better but ground regulations and licensing requirements (not the wishes of RFC) dictate that supporters are required to sit. If they were to tolerate standing in GU1 it would be pretty difficult to enforce the regulations elsewhere in the ground.

You only have to read all the bleating on here when a few away supporters are deemed to have got away with standing to see what the reaction elsewhere in the stadium would be.

It is my intention that any such group will strictly adhere to stadium regulations. Obviously standing is permissable at times of excitement, however we must keep a good relationship with the club and the authorites if this is to progress.

My feelings are that it is still possible to have a electrifying atmosphere in an all-seater stadium and this must be our aim.

At some grounds there has been an unofficial "arrangement" that certain areas would not be stewarded as heavily as others when it came to standing.

But almost without exception, as soon as the FLA (Football Licensing Authority) found out about this the club was heavily pressured by their licensing authority to enforce the regulations fully and has always bowed to this pressure.

A particular case is at Leicester a few years ago where there was a "singing area" with lenient enforcement of standing regulations, and this arrangement was posted on a website somewhere and LCFC were threatened with losing their license the next week.

But the bottom line is that RFC have no choice in the matter - they simply cannot decide to relax the rules as a condition of their licence from RBC is enforcing those regulations. However, bear in mind that as GU1is not an area where there is traditionally "trouble" or boisterous supporters, there are likely to be fewer stewards covering that area - initially, at least.

Reading are far too plastic these days to create any atmosphere.

There are also too many fleece wearers.

So far eleven people have commited themselves to GU1. Please don't take the attitude of waiting for others to sign up before you do. If everybody does this then the turn out will be poor. If you are interested please visit or call the ticket office and book your seat.

Come and join us!

Weren't we told that the reason GU1 is always empty is that it is set aside for corporates who have some sort of hospitality package?

That was excuse #32 on the reasons why we are not selling out. Just below "the game was on a Satuday" and just above "the game wasn't on a Saturday"
