Very slim chance of this happening - there'd be uproar surely and if it did then it'd be an absolute disgrace.

Alan Partridge To actually wish a club to go out of business in order to win a false promotion is all a bit bizarre in my opinion.

I think I'd actually rather be mediocre.

They will probably be bought by a 'Ken Bates type' for 1p and all debts wiped, leaving some poor souls out of pocket..... :x

RoyalBlue
Sun Tzu Why would theystart in Div 2 ? Surely they would need to go to the bottom of the pyramid rather than mid way ?

I can't see a club being allowed to fold at this stage of the season. Isn;t the example of Gretna a more realistic one where the players wages are paid by the league, the administrators run the club and all is done on the basis of a winding down at the end of the season.

This would give teams to still play Saints an advantage of course, of these only Burnley and Wolves figure at the top end.

I don't see how killing a club serves to benefit fans or the good of the game and it would be morally wrong (and probably legally wrong ?) to 'make an example' of anyone. Treat them according to the rules no more and no less.

I seem to recall that judges sometimes pass sentences (within those made available to them) to make an example of offenders. Therefore, provided the punishment is one permitted within league rules, there is nothing to stop Saints receiving a harsh punishment in order to deter others from doing the same.

Ignoring the blatently obvious point that the people responsible no longer have anything to do with the club so they would be making an example of the wrong people !!

Bit like cutting the hand off a mugging victim to 'set an example' to potential muggers.....

Clubs may also be eligible to claim compensation for any injuries or bookings that could have affected them in games following a match against Southampton.

This must be the first time in the football leagues history of a senario like this.

Actually its quite a few weeks late. Southampton have been in quite a bit of financial trouble for a while now. Have you been living under a rock?
