I love Steve Coppell, but even I can't wait for a new era now.

New season, new manager, new ideas, new backroom staff (I hope), the Doyle's and Hunts out and new blood in, youth given a chance and most likely because money will be tighter than ever as the wage bill is cut further.

I don't care if we face 3-4 years of Championship mid-table mediocrity, I just want to see hunger and energy again, and young players coming through.

New era, new ideas!

I would even a pay extra for my season ticket to get a little hunger and energy!

Deathy you have hit the nail on the head there matey, quite happy for a couple of building years, lets bring the youngsters in and let them free from the reigns, we have lots of them playing regularly now up and down the divisions, they deserve their chance.

We have the ultimate dilemma here, we have all enjoyed the past few years, the unheard of success and glory, but we dont have an ownership regime that will spend willy nilly. we have a choice, success on the pitch..........at a price, or financial security and a learning side a little below par, but one that will play with energy and desire, something that no one could complain about, yes our total lack of investment has cost us dearly over the past couple of years, there is no arguement about that. We could and should have invested both the last two seasons, in particular in January when the warning signs were there for all to see, and we would probably still be in the top league. Loyalty is all well and good but that has come at a severe price.

The danger signs are clear, if we do get some form back and come through the play-off's then we will still maintain the present look to the squad and that clearly wont be anywhere near good enough to stay in the top league, so, even though the time in the top league was just the best ever, we need to be realistic and the amount of finance to stay there will only come from a new owner, lets take this season on the chin and look ahead with the kids, I am certain we will have a new manager, hopefully one with a track record in developing young players, with vision and the ability to see when things need changing,the kids,they are a fine bunch, a new start with Pearce as the new captain and build a side around him, Karacan, Henry and Robson-Kanu, keep some experience and go with it, we will get energy, passion, pace and a desire to be successful. Possibly radical but this has to be better than what we have been served up this past three or four months. Steve Coppell will forever be in the hearts and minds of us supporters that have been on this roller coaster ride, a true Reading Hall of Famer, but he has been found wanting the latter part of this season, and it makes one wonder if there is still some "dressing room issues" hanging around from last season, there are some personal issues with the manager and some players, in particular Lita and personal differences should not be allowed to interfere with the success of the team on the pitch, a player might not be your best friend but if he can do a job for the side, then personal feelings should be kept out of it, the priority is success on the pitch, not "cutting off your nose to spite your face "

That is what will be. Coppell being a man of honour will go. Followed by Doyle, Kitson again and the Hunts.The Royals will hover around the mid championship mark for three or four seasons....Time for strenous work on the youngsters for season 2013. Get dug in lads.

I agree with all of that. I am prepared to wait a couple of seasons and the players that have come through the academy have to be given a chance. The club is not essentially a buying club and to be honest Coppell's tourneys into the transfer market over the past two seasons have left me singularly unimpressed.

There has to be a massive clearout at the end of the season; Doyle and SHunt must be cashed in - if anyone still wants them - and the dead wood cleared. That would include Harper, Hahnemann, Matejovsky, Doobs, Ingi, Kebe. Kits will be back to Stoke now that they look like staying up.

I have read several times on here the opinion that the Hunts will go - personally I would be quite surprised if Noel goes anywhere - he should be the striker with an experienced head that we keep on board.

As others have said, anything is better than what we're witnessing at the moment.

I, too, would look forward to seeing a young side next season but if it also had a touch of experience, I don't see why we have to expect 3-4 years of mid-table footy.

I don't see why that side could not challenge for a play off spot with us having not spent a penny after raking in a fortune from selling Doyle etc.

In fact, if Coppell leaves now and we get a temp in who is prepared to play that side minus Ivar, I might even turn up for this seasons playoffs
