Other than wry amusement at one or two of the people who were telling us we're as good as up in Dec-Jan now saying it just doesn't matter that much, I actually do think the play-offs could just be the spark to get one last performance out of a bunch of players, half of which simply do not want to be here anymore.

Over 270 minutes of football, if we keep it tight and have a moment of magic or two, then it is more than possible.

The truly wretched thing, and I have contempt for myself for this, is that I would actually finish 7th and have Swansea overtake us. :|

We will win tonight, Brum will win on Saturday and at the top end the final day of the season will be one big anticlimax. At least there's Forest-Saints to keep Sky happy.

Right - on my way north. See you all later in that Harvester-type pub between the station and the stadium...

I still have a vague hope of a result tonight.

royalexile Surpising as it may seem and as bad as our run is at the moment, win tonight and we are back into fourth place. Should the team win tonight could tactics and an easier run into the playoffs be a priority or will the team still chase for the maximum points tally possible.

Only if Cardiff don't win at Charlton.

If we win tonight, then we're in the play-offs and it doesn't matter what happens in the other two matches because it doesn't really matter who we get to play, or whether we end up 3rd or 6th, so the pressure will be off and the team will have bought themselves some time to sort themselves out properly.

Worth trying to get back to 3rd or 4th though, to play second leg at home.

Or is that no advantage to us now......

At least getting into the playoffs is in our own hands.

Depends on how you look at it, our record in the playoffs has seen our best performances put in away from home. I know we beat Wigan in the last 10 minutes in the second leg but up until that point I would say we were lucky to still be in with a shout. So, home first away second would be my preference oddly

It won't matter. Our form is going to come back tonight and we'll storm through every game from now on.

Why not? People have been saying it before every match since January?

ha ha Coppell has been spouting similar quotes all season and last season. This year will be exactly the same as last, we'll drop to 7th with one game left and then stuff Birmingham last game and still not finish in the play-offs.

Coppell will then claim how unlucky we were!!

What a fcuking disaster this season is, the sooner he fcvks off the better. Nice to see he's actually leaving us in a worse position that when he took over.

Quite Ian, a disaster is what Charlton have had or Soton - this season has not been a disaster and even if we don't go up it won't be.

Just like 05/06 - the only thing decided on the final day was where the first game of Preston v Leeds in the playoffs would be - IIRC Preston won to finish 4th (not that it did them any use seeing as Leeds knocked them out in the semis).

How is he leaving us in a worse position than when he took over? He took over when our season was going nowhere and we were in mid-table managed by Kevin Dillon.

Since then he's turned Reading into a club where relatively good players want to play - rather than before when w8nkers just thought of us as some tiny little club that was below them (Quashie, Neil Lennon and David Connolly to name a few over the years).

He's also steered us to eighth in the Prem.

Can see the game being moved to 12:45 if it's Cardiff v Reading (or vice versa).
