The 'we will win the play off' thread

by hughsies no.1 » 20 Apr 2009 21:02

just wanted to write a thread so i could say i told you so if the unthinkable happens at the end of may.

but seriously why not though. yeah its been dire since crimbo but anything can happen in those play off games! there are so many doom merchants on this board and i for one cant spend my money going to watch my team week in week out being negative about it all. yeah its depressing but thats football. it cant be all good and we have had it so good in the last 5 or so years.

lets hope we gets the taffs and beat them in their last game at ninian then beat brum at wembley. optimistic i know but come on

I know that the second reply can't be a sympathy post, but I have sympathy for you.

yeah probably because most royals seem to have a bit of a short memory. either that or there first season ticket was purchased in our first season in the prem where we nearly got the uefa cup. expectation levels are so ridiculously high and a lot of people expected us to walk this league. yeah it aint been right since Christmas but thats football and where not going to win every game. we now have the opportunity to get into one of the most exciting 'little tournaments' in the world. i aint the oldest supporter but i remember witnessing various disappointing moments such as loosing to walsall at cardiff and that was gutting, just managing to get a play off is not gutting. its dissapointing we havent pushed on since christmas but thats life. a lot of royals need a reality check!!!

Having just watched Burnley v Sheffield Utd and compared that wih out past few performances I am not entirely sure I am convinced that we will make the play off final

I don't think we will make the play offs. 2 tricky away games and a home game against the runners-up. At least we can play Leicester again :D

My first season ticket was a little book of paper vouchers, enclosed in a small PVC wallet. Ahhhh memories.

I had one of them.In fact, I had loads over the years. For cup games there were ten vouchers in the back ranging from A to K.

We're talking next season right?

I think this thread may be a bit ambitious.

I have always been of the rose tinted ,pint half full over optimistic persuation when it comes to all things RFC.
However it is sadly abundantly clear that things have gone massively wrong in the camp and the up and at `em united spirit which created the successful synergy has evaporated leaving a ragtag bunch of jaded looking hoops jogging up and down with the rare moments of success occuring by the law of averages rather than a result of spirit or cunning design.
The plot is well and truely lost im sorry to say and we aint going nowhere without a massive root and branch clear out and rebuild.
IMHO should results elsewhere leave us with the borderline embarrasment of fielding a side for the playoffs we should field the youngsters that will hopefully have hunger and be part of the royal rebuild.
The overpaid egos that consider playing in second gear(me being charitable here) is acceptable for this club can **** right off asap!
Conclusion: Yep football is a funny old game but its a nutter that puts a penny on RFC making it through the playoffs this term. The very thought of that shower in the premiership fills me with abject horror! Rant over come on urzzz

As difficult as I see it, it has always been my favourite way to get promoted this season. If we win it that is..............

OK - as of tonight we've clinched our play-off place.

We now need Swansea to hold Sheff Utd and Preston to beat Birmingham on Saturday.

Those results (surely not that unlikely, given that they both could still overtake Burnley) will mean that us beating Norwich on Monday will set us up for a titanic match with Brum on 3 May, for promotion.

I know, I know, but surely I can dream.....
